Philly Rollcall

How was the rest of the set? I left with about 3-4 minutes left in Deliverance, because I was with my dad and neither of us could stand any longer, not to mention we had to make the drive back to AC, NJ.
what do you mean you couldnt stand it any longer? did you get tired or did you think it was sucking?

I couldn't stand up any longer, I was too tired. Being 14 with a lower back problem due to being overweight, standing for 3-4 hours constant is hard. My dad is 46 and he was tired as well.

ah, i know what you mean. my knees and lower back hurt so fucking bad after standing in one place for awhile.

but yeah, the rest of the concert kicked ass. mosh pits started up in the front and i was in them. and i started one. heheheheh

What was the rest of the set? Like I said, I left with about 4 minutes left in Deliverance (during the "devil guides the way, tells me what to say" part)...actually, what was the set? I can remember: Beneath the Mire, When, I think they played something else then In My Time of Need, then Grand Conjuration and Face of Melinda and Deliverance (I think that was it)

TGC live rules. So much energy.

aw, you should have like...sat down and just listened to the music.

rest of the set:
blackwater park and then demon of the fall was the encore song.

i hear ya on the lower back thing my friend! i was trying to do stretches in between songs. luckily i was at the bar and had some room. my non-metal appreciating girlfriend was quite the trooper and hung out for as long as i wanted to. she deserves 2 or 3 chick flicks for that one. luckily i brought a set of earplugs for her.

the set list was 100% typical of what you'll find on the American Set-list thread. they haven't changed anything since swapping out The Moor for Face of Melinda. ghost of perdition rumors were about and the crowd didn't hesitate to yell out requests. but they stuck to the game plan (probably b/c of their fill-in drummer). the other funny thing was the crowd yelling out what they KNEW was coming next (mostly due to this forum circulating the set list).

anyway, i'm pretty sure deliverance led into the drum/headbanging tutorial which led into black water park (a highlight for me along with FOM). i split after that. after grabbing a slice of pizza on south street i ran into the bulk of the crowd on exit. demon of the fall was the encore, as expected.

They opened with Beneath the Mire and not Baying of the Hounds?
Man I would have loved to see that...

well Baying of the Hounds has a part where he sings
"Drown in the deep mire
Past desires
Beneath the Mire
Drown desire now with you"

you sure that wasn't it?

Awesome show...cannot say enough...it always seems to fly by when opeth comes on though...:( ya know....last time at the troc. the same thing seemed to transpire....still incredible....I guess the meaning stands true...."time flys by when your having fun"good crowd...not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be...cannot wait till feb....I also thought into eternity and nevermore put on good shows...the dude from into eternity has some fucking range...respect...nevermore sounded great from where I was.

Yep that was it, that got me confused. It was BotH then

I thought that the sound wasn't too bad. I mean it definitely could have been better but it was definitely listeanble. As for the crowd...it was pretty good. There weren't too many douche bags. I mean I saw one kid text messaging on his cell phone during Opeth's set and some emo kid said something to me when I was, well, going insane during the set at which point I promptly told him to fuck off, and some other annoying things but overall the crowd was, for lack of a better word, doucheless  (I make up words for no reason...).

The show was decent. Into Eternity were great, although the sound sucked. I don't really like Nevermore so I won't really comment on them, but really... wearing a beanie to hide your baldness is really lame.

Opeth were alright. Baying of the Hounds was a terrible opening track, as the song really isn't very exciting, and the sound was terrible, so nothing sounded heavy enough. When was ruined as they slowed it down a tad. Bleak was fucking great though, as was Face of Melinda. But god damn I wanted to fall asleep during In My Time of Need and the Grand Conjuration... both songs are just ridiculously boring. They seriously need to play a different Damnation song. Face of Melinda was absolutely fantastic. And Deliverance and Blackwater Park were great.

The crowd was fucking terrible though. Did anyone else want to murder the monsterously obese guy that, throughout ALL THREE BANDS, would do two things:

1. Completely non-sensical air guitar, that involved simply moving his fingers up and down, regardless of what was actually being played
2. Turning completely around to his friends, leaning into them while singing all of the words directly to them, as if he needed their approval, while doing stupid fucking hand motions to all of the lyrics.

Plus the ugliest girl I have ever seen, crowd surfing repeatedly with her mid-drift showing and rolling her disgusting gut into oblivion. And the short, fat, annoying foreign girl behind me who couldn't stop singing completely off key and off rhythm. She would also yell out growling lyrics in a normal voice, what the fuck is that?

But still... pretty good show. I was very pleased to finally see Into Eternity.

I saw that guy. I was more amused at his stupidity then annoyed. It was the little emo kids that were pissing me the fuck off. The concert was still awesome though.

I agree about Baying being the opener. When I saw Opeth for the first time and they opened with Leper Affinity I was fucking BLOWN AWAY. I think Ghost of Perdition would have the same effect, Baying is definitely not a good opener. That same girl surfing almost took my fucking head off from behind, she was the ONLY person doing it. And yes they should play a different Damnation track but In My Time of Need was fun to sing along with. Good points about the show though.

Here's a pic I took...I was too lazy to take more..

I was a little further back but I kept seeing her go up and immediately fall back down. It kind of looked like nobody wanted to help her crowd surf...and thank god they didnt because it was fucking stupid.

didn't see anybody crowdy surfing the whole time..wtf. (i was to the far left, if you're looking at the stage, on that little part lifted off the ground.) then again i don't go to watch assholes mosh or people crowd surf, but to watch the concert ;-)
