Phoenix 2.0 in Flight

I've been meaning to mention here (OzNimbus) that Bad News RULES! A friend loaned me a VHS of the shows awhile back and I loved 'em. Really funny. Great stuff. I'd like to get my hands on a copy for myself (he had both the original show, and the reunion thing filmed later on.)

The title is not too...cute? :err:
Not at all. That's a cool font, it's designed off hand-written old English scripts, like the US Declaration of Independence. That was back when they had to dip their pens in ink every few words. What a pain in the ass that must have been, considering I wrote this sentence in less than 8 seconds (with a few taps of the backspace key).

I don't have an issue with the design or font, is just that the cover in very dark in conception and the title is too simple more for a average power band or a prog band, and Final Stage is way over those concepts IMO, especially with the cover of the EP like Brandon mentioned.

Again taste is in the ear of the beholder :loco:

The cover reflects the new material. Musically it's very similar to the EP (only a bit more mature), the theme of the record is considerably darker.

Okay, I gotcha. Didn't realize you meant the title itself. I thought "Through The Mirror" was at least an acceptable title (although I keep thinking Symphony X, V album). The only negative I thought on first impression was there is nothing "reflective" in the artwork (other than the water where reflections are natural and expected), so the mirror analogy doesn't make sense to me.

But if the title is referencing a particular song, maybe it will make more sense when I hear it. Or maybe the album title doesn't tie into the artwork at all?

Guys, when you read the lyrics and hear the new material, you'll understand why we went with the artwork and title that we did.... trust me on this. :)

Before the end of July we're going to be posting a brand new song in full on our myspace page to ease the waiting for the full disc to be released. :p

Trust your local Canuck...alright! :p :kickass:

At least you can't deny you have a captive audience

NP: Seventh Wonder - 'Not An Angel'

Ok, I'm back from my vacation in the Smokey Mountains, & I can start mixing again. It's always good to "sharpen the blade" as it were..... Last time I did something like this I got Unrestrained! Magazine's award for "Best underground album of 2004."

We'll see how this pans out.

BTW, yeah, Bad News rules: There's the two-part VHS tape, as well as a full album, which is really hilarious. There's about 6 songs on it & the rest of it is them arguing in the studio. Just priceless stuff. Especially their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Running off of 2-3 rehearsals since May, we played a show last night which went awesome. We debuted one new song off the upcoming disc and the crowd loved it. :headbang:

We're hoping before the end of the week we have a new song for you all to hear!

In the middle of mixing the "epic song" right now. Goddamn, is this one complex! There's 16 vocal tracks, six violin tracks, 2 time changes, 2 tempo shifts & all sorts of crazy shit going on. Looks like it'll be about 48 tracks in total.... all based on a riff that the bass player wrote when he was drunk one night! I've been excited & full of dread simultaneously at the thought of mixing it down.

In case it wasn't mentioned, we snagged Jeff Klingbeil from Betrayer to do backups & harmonies. He really shines on this one. Actually, the whole process of the three of us throwing ideas around the room was a lot of fun.

Just handed the masters over to the group about 10 minutes ago. It's done! Checked it out on several stereos & my iPod & it was fucking beautiful. Stay tuned, folks.

Hell yeah! Brandon was in turmoil yesterday, glad everything turn out fine.

Now somebody owe TSO, PMR and I a sample :D

NP: Lordian Guard - 'Children Of The King'

Just spoke to Josh, the bass player, after a few hours of listening to the new disc. To quote him exactly, "This thing is a masterpiece... and we did it without narcotics"

Come Sunday I expect a lot of weeping when you hear a new track.
