how could i forget to bring this up?

what is up with pillowcases being brought to the festival? it's probably my ONLY issue when i come every year.

what happened to the phrase "move your meat, lose your seat"? plus if none of us have assigned seating then it should be a free for all between bands, and nothing should be able to be "reserved" unless you have a person from your group holding seats (which i do). sure, its annoying for all of us to share that duty in a group but it must be done. simply leaving a pillowcase you bring from your hotel isn't really fair to the rest of us wandering around mingling and then coming in when the bands are on when the people with pillowcases are out there doing the same thing, but able to do it freely without leaving anyone behind. now maybe i don't know it but all the pillowcase people do leave someone behind to tell people the seats are taken, but what would be the point? again, i could be mistaken.

just a thought. anyone else find it kind of pretentious of attendees?
not being hostile just inquiring since i have seen it happen several years now and with most things i expect the trend to continue and (HOPEFULLY NOT) grow because if that's the case glenn might as well start selling assigned seating and GA tickets.

I think you missed the previous years. It was a huge war between us, people who stand most of the time and want to sit occasionally, and the lazy bunch who think they have the right to save the seats all night.

Now, bringing pillowcases to save your seat? Man, that's so white trash almost!! hahahahahahaha

you are correct i did miss it. i am new to this board, but having been coming to PP every year since 2001 so i figured i would mention it since we are just about a week away from the event.

glad to hear i am not the only one upset by it. last year i was almost tempted to remove a few and take their seats just to see what would happen when they returned. hahaha. i guess that is the instigator in me.

Have to admit, I have found it irritating in the past, but have just let it go. This year it will be more than irritating since I'll still be taking photos at the start of each set, but will have to sit down a lot due to the continued rehab of my ankle. Not sure how that's all going to work out. Also worried about the stairs and lighting.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve with the Prog Power fest. I've mentioned it in posts before. I swear some of these seats in question never get sat in. I can understand someone holding a seat for a buddy while they use the bathroom, or grab a bit to eat .. no problem with that at all. What I can't stand is when people skip entire bands while one person stays behind to hold their seats. It's bullshit !!

I've basically have got to the point where I'll stand on the floor for 80 percent of the show, but a guy has got to sit down once in a while. There's nothing more upsetting than someone saying these four seats are taken.

One more thing .. I've been on both sides of this issue. When I went to PP2 I spent some time trying to save some seats for friends and stuff, but after it was apparent that my friends weren't coming back anytime soon I started to feel like a douche and just let people have them.

I know I will be on the floor for maybe 3 bands at the most, so I'm gonna either be seated, doing a bio-break (aka bathroom) or just leaving the place to look at the merch , drink or eat something (and doing the line for Sabaton signing session).

I have no problem sharing a seat I may grab with anyone if I'm not gonna listen to a certain band and the person wants to sit down for awhile.

And the pillow idea is not that bad actually :D Or leaving my bag on the seat, I trust everybody is honorable and there will be no thievery.

Personally, I don't sit in the seats much at all. I greatly prefer to stand during concerts. If for some reason I want to sit down for a little bit though, there's the eternal problem of "saved seats". Sorry, that's bullshit. You can put pillowcases, shirts, bags, or a life-size mannequin in the chair... as far as I'm concerned, a seat is available unless someone's ass is in it... regardless of what else is in the seat, or what the person in the adjacent seat says. If the adjacent person says the seat is being saved, I just say "no problem, I'll get up when they get back". Now, they don't really even have any right to that... if they got up and went somewhere, the seat is by all rights available. But I'm also not interested in getting into a fight over a seat, like toddlers fighting over toys. However, in 8 years of going to the fest, not once has the person the seat was being "saved" for ever come back during the time I was sitting there. Problem solved.

Other thing i forgot to mention is that i have to sit most of the day due to foot problems i have sustained. heel spurs. anyone who has them knows what it's like and it sucks. so that is why i raise the issue of reserved seating.

BUT, i will make this statement now. any idiot leaving an unattended merch bag will LOSE it just on principle alone. i don't think anyone will do it, but a few years ago it was happening all the time and i said to myself and friends, "who leaves merch completely unattended?" i mean i know we are all upstanding people who come to this fest, but seriously it should be us who teaches them a lesson and not the "cruel world" right? haha.

also if you see someone being hauled off by security because of a pillowcase revolt it will be most likely me! hahaha.

The people who are on this forum are cool.
The people who leave pillowcases suck.

Complain all you want, the persons who need to read this are out chasing kids into traffic or whatever the hell else it is that disrespectful bastards do.

It would be easy to stop this practice once and for all--take the pillowcases, and the vendor bags, or hats, or whatever the hell else is holding a seat and toss them all down on the floor. Then when the people come back act innocent.

From then on, they will either find a different place to sit or they will designate a seat saver.

How about this? A rule stating that ONLY the top ten rows of the venue may be saved with pillowcases or bag, and the rest of the seats are first butt first served.?

It's simple... if you go around Atlanta, dropping a pillowcase on every parking spot you see in the street to save it for you, someone will simply drive right over of your pillowcase. If they're nice, they'll pick up your pillowcase, throw it away and park there.

If I find the need to sit down, and I find someone saving a seat with a pillowcase, that will be my attitude. Screw you if you don't like it. Don't be a jerk, don't save the damn seats, and don't be a hick (because honestly, if you bring a pillowcase to save a seat, you're a hick).

If you see an open seat, take it. If someone gives you shit, tell them to fuck off, you're injured. If they still give you a problem, come find me and I'LL tell them to fuck off.

Don't count on it. That's just a silly idea. Someone will walk off with it. Frankly, I think we should have the mentality this year that if there's not a butt in the seat, it's open to be sat in, and if someone comes to claim it, so be it.

BUT, i will make this statement now. any idiot leaving an unattended merch bag will LOSE it just on principle alone.

That's fucked up, just move it to the floor and wait for them to come back, then hand them their bag and say it was on your seat.
