Been listening to Alestorm Lately and loving them, are there any other pirate theme bands out there?

Wow, guys. Swashbuckle are alright for goofy thrash, but Alestorm are just terrible. Running Wild is the only really good pirate-themed band out there.

I really like Alestorm as well, but they have yet to break through as an "anomaly" for me. "CMR" is great, but upon further investigation of their stuff it all kinda sounds the same :( How far can they go?

Alestorm is stupid but if that's what you like go crazy.

Does it have to be PIRATE themed or can it be all kinds of seafarer? Might interest you to check out the "Pelagic/Oceanic Metal" thread a page or two back

I've heard Captain Morgan's Revenge. It's got two good songs and the rest are listless padding. The vocals are remarkably fitting, but that's the only good thing I can say about it.

I found Captain Morgan's Revenge to be mostly boring. The title track (if I'm remembing correctly) was probably the only interesting/entertaining song. Not much inspiration in the music, in my opinion.

Alestorm has a couple of good songs (Nancy the Tavern Wench is a great festival party song, Captain Morgan's Revenge itself is a fairly good sing along), but are pretty uninspiring generally.

The Swashbuckle bassist/singer dude seems to have ridiculous fucking chops and quite powerful vocals, I'd like to see him do something serious. Swashbuckle might be a laugh live if they are tight, but I got bored of their recorded stuff VERY quickly.

Alestorm try and do what Turisas do; but where Turisas succeeds at being entertaining and catchy despite being very theatrical and cheesy, Alestorm fails.
