pirates/carribbean

i skipped it, if only because my OILY MANIAC DVD came in the mail.

i'm actually following avi's read-between-the-lines advice and doing work. and reading the board. instead.

also, damn the feel-good stats, disney can get fucked.

I was actually trying to be encouraging as I too have heard good things. honest!

doing work is okay though. lord knows I've got a ton of the stuff today.

avi, if i have kids, the possibility of which is looking more and more doubtful, but if i do, i was thinking that maybe you could be godfather. not that i'm xian or anything.

also, due to increased movie flow via netflix, i am thinking we need to open a tsui hark discussion.

ooh, I'd be up for that!

all the netflix movies I have at home right now are long and depressing. I like those sort of movies, but have trouble bringing myself to put them on. I just never feel in the mood for such stuff, but I know I wanna see em anyway.

like what movies? i would prefer to watch one of those to a lighter comedy-type thing, but again, i'm part miserable anyhow. but i find that type of film is much more nutricious. at least, for me.

i have to admit, it took me 31 years to finally get around to watching Chinese Ghost Story I, and i liked it enough to burn it. I actually thought it would be a little tighter (WE'RE GOING TO EAT YOU was actually faster paced, in my mind!), but overall it was as awesome as they say.

although i didn't like the ending all that much.

ALSO, last night i watched "Tsui Hark's Vampire Hunter", which i had spotted at a local Hollywood, so i assume this is mass-market and easily available.

have you seen it? i'm thinking, overall, i didn't like it, but it was a tough sell not to like it. there's a lot going on.

huh, never seen Vampire Hunter, but it might be a retitled and re-edited version of another movie.

I love Chinese Ghost Story both 1 and 2. Time and Tide surprised me by how good it was, as I was mostly just expecting mindless action. Dragon Inn was kinda meh, the entire 'Once Upon...' series is almost 100% bad-ass.

my favorite Tsui Hark film tho: Green Snake. i think it was the first I ever saw and still my favorite.

oh, i'm such an idiot. it wasn't directed by Hark, it was produced by him. that explains it.

it's also called The Era of Vampire, and it is basically a CGI-effect laden retelling of MR VAMPIRE I, except with much lamer comedy.

and like everything else, the vampires and hoppers do all sorts of things that only a post THE PHANTOM MENACE world can provide. like blowing up, shooting explosives, etc. bullshit.

but the thing that really struck me about this movie is the atmospherics. it's kinda light-hearted, but everything is saturated with grey and rain and earthtones and sometimes weird, weird, subtle, and weird yet again CGI-atmospheric effects. if anyone's going to use CGI for anything, i would say this is it. i noticed similar things in 28 days later.

avi, i urge you to watch this and give me your opinion on it.

also, Green Snake has the ankle-bracelet lady from CGS I, right?

also, as apparent in both CTHD and now this VAMPIRE HUNTERS, i think 30+ year old chinese women are probably the most beautiful things in the universe.

holy shit I am adding that movie to my netflix queue right now! a cgi-laden of Mr. Vampire is most definitely a good thing.

yes, chinese women age very well.

CTHD?

(attn. this thread has been hijacked)

hijacked, yeah. but it's fine with me. it was dork-out land to begin with.

yes, chinese women age very well

i notice this look of quiet concern that comes over the brow that i find amazing. michele yeoh has it, and you'll see that the "sasa" character in this film does, as well. and OMG maggie cheung.

CTHD = crouching tiger...

no! i have to see that. again, that's at all the local video places but i just never got around to seeing it.

i swear, the rank smell of chain video stores makes me sick, and for some reason i can only rent shitty films from there.

also, since this thread is perving out:
