Do you think I'm ready to move on to bass & guitar or is there anything that should still be tweaked? I think it's sounding pretty good, but I'd like to get another set of ears to give me some feedback.

(I'm talking about the mix itself, not the wanky drum programming):)

The toms sound wayyy off, especially compared to the kick, mix wise. The overheads sound like they could have some more low-end rolled off on them, do a high-pass at about 600-800Hz if you have to. Realistically, you want the toms to sound very similar to the kick, very tight and mostly the attack and low-end, sounds like you have a lot of mids left in them and they don't fit the rest of the kit for the purpose you are using it for, which I'm assuming is metal or something heavy in general. Actually, they sound basically like raw toms, like they haven't been processed at all yet.

Just my opinion though. :)

Okay, I think I got closer this time. I took some suggestions from another forum as well, encouraging me not to use a typewriter for the kick.:ill:

Kick: less click, more chunk

Toms: more lows & snap

Snare: less flub, more crack

I think this mix is a bit deeper and more balanced. As for the OH highpass suggestion, you might be hearing the drums in the ambient mics. I'm trying to get cross between the "studio sound" a more roomy, "live," power metal sound............actually, to be honest I forgot to highpass the OH/ambient, so I don't know what that would sound like.:loco:

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions

Here's another update, with tighter toms, more highs on OH with low end roll-off.

The spectral analyzer makes it look like a nice place for bass and guitar to sit. I'm liking the way it sounds too.

Sounds a lot better. Now for the real test: put some guitars and bass on it. Then you'll really know how the drums are sounding. :)

No offense, but to me this doesn't sound like DFHS at all ... more like some early 90s drumsynth.

LOL! Then my work here is complete.:p

That's sort of what I'm going for - I'm not looking for drum sounds that sound like what drums are supposed to sound like....think Fear Factory, but not so in your face. I might back down on the reverb a little bit though.

006, I'll send you the midi when I'm home from work....not sure what you'd want it for.:err: Are you checking on whether it would be possible for a human to play it? Because it wouldn't. AFAIK, it's a little difficult to chomp on the high hat and do complex kick work at the same time.:)
