Hi everyone!

I would really like to see some opinions from you guys on this song I recorded with my band.

http://www.dynahead.com.br/DynaheaD - Bloodish Eyes.mp3

It was mixed three months ago. I decided to post it here right now because we're recording some new stuff in about two months, and while looking for some more high-end production standards I wished some advice from your expertises.

I'll describe how I recorded it later, when I have some opinion already. You're probably going to bash me for this but it was cheap, believe me... :tickled:

I would put some more tunes online for you guys, but it's late night down here and I need some rest..

Be honest, and thanks a lot for the patience.

Cheerz and a metallic new year!

Overall, it's a pretty good mix but there are two things that really bother me. The first is that the right/left guitar tones are so different that they are very distracting when listening through headphones. The other is that snare, it really kills my ears when it comes in, it gives a very "garage" sound, I'd try running it through a sonic maximizer or replacing it with a sample or something, because it just isn't working for me how it is.

On a technical note, some of the abrupt guitar mutes aren't tight enough and you can hear some harmonics that are produced as a result.

Thanks a lot for your comments. It helped much. I agree with you, and you pointed exactly the same things that are bothering me. Just lemme tell you why did that happened.

It was supposed to be just one of those cheap rehearsal demos, but I decided to spice it with some overdubs. There was only one guitar player on the band so we recorded guitar L + bass + drums live. The drums are mono, because the “engineer” in the studio didn’t knew how to pan in the mixer (can u believe?), one of those fancy digital ones, and I didn’t had the time to figure out how to do it.

So there I was, 1 guitar panned left, a mono drumkit and bass, all mixed down in one single stereo track. Uck. :yuk:

That’s why the snare is so “piercing”, I couldn’t tweak it without messing with the guitar, cymbals, etc.
The tonal difference between the guitars is because I used completely different amps (L is a JCM900 full stack and R is a home made combo) and the L guitar was already mixed down. So I tried to make the R sound ok alongside with it. In speakers it kinda sounds nice but in headsets…
About the guitar mutes… Those shitty harmonics happens more frequently in the L guitar. I couldn’t gate it or anything without fucking with the drum sound.

I’m describing all of the process because it was kind of funny struggling with it, in such a rush and with all of those difficulties. It wasn’t even supposed to sound good!
You should try doing it sometime. :D You learn a lot from it.
