Ok, I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, cause it's such a stupid question.

But... I have a PODxt, which as of late, I'm using just as a "dongle", seeing how I bought PODFarm. Well, I'm question my tone after hearing too many good sounding raw pre-"reamp" guitar wavs.

As of right now, I am plugging directly, guitar into my soundcard (EMU-0404), which seems to be "ok" seeing I have Blackouts, and they are pushing enough signal. But I keep hearing all about preamps, and DI boxes and my question is...

Would you plug your POD in straight? Or into a pre or DI box prior? And since I am going direct, and can't afford one yet, can I plug into my POD bypassing any effects, using it only as a DI box? Will this do the trick or am I way off.

Plugging your POD in straight is perfectly fine if you're on a budget, like me:)
haha
but it definitely sounds better going through a DI box
here's a link to a thread with clips of the differeces between the pod DI and a countryman DI box

here's a link to how a mix can sound with Pod DI

and if you want to record a direct signal through the pod just select mono input 7 in your DAW as the input
