PODxt /w Metal Shop: good amps other than Criminal (5150)?

when all is said and done criminal is the only one i been using for recording. with my tube screamer in front it sounds great. quad track with 1 track on axis and one off axis for each side. sounds heavy

I like the Diezels (my current favorite Pod tone is the Deity's Son (Diezel Herbert) model with a Tubescreamer in front), the Bogner Uberschall and Marshall Silver Juibilee (needs a boost for tightness, but kills with one) models.

I'm definitely in the minority on this forum, but I didn't care for the Criminal model at all. Too thin.

I like the Bogner Ecstasy, Dual Rectifier, and Plexi Variac models as well for high gain.

To me the PODXT like said before sounds good on low tuned guitars (i.e. Messugah)...It seems to give a smooth low end but harsh digital top.....personally anyting that is with in a full step of natural tuning sounds like crap....

I am new to the POD but the Angel P-ball has great potential. More low end than the Criminal. Not to take anything away from the Criminal. I've been recording one track with the Pball and re-tracking the same riff with the criminal. The Criminal adds a bit more bite to the P-Ball.

I like L6 Big Bottom with 4x12 Treadplate cab & 57 off axis.

Start with all EQ knobs around 12oClock & tweak to taste for a tight metal tone :)

I have the toyport still stock - have not cash chucked on the expansion packs. Spinal Puppet is the only high gain thing in there worth 2 cents. In fact, i use that, and the country patch - thats it. =)

Of the shitty samps on L6 site - the big bottom sounds the best to me. Of user done stuff, ive only heard the 5150 and big bottom - and the big bottom seems to be the winner to me, but the 5150 sounds good.

Story teller - since you have the metal pack, to your ears, does the 5150 and Large Ass completely annihilate the spinal pup?

THankx

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned the Diamondplate model. Imo, it's much better than the Dual Rec model.

+1 for Big Bottom, Diamondplate (Triple Rec), and P-Ball (Powerball). Sometimes I like the Treadplate (Mesa) cab with 57 in either position or the 67, and sometimes I like the Brit V30 (Marshall Vintage) cab with 57 any of the mic options, but especially 57 on-axis or 421.
