As seen on Monday Night Raw last night:

1. Christopher Nowinski a "bad guy" came out last night to face the roided up freak Scott Steiner. He compared the USA to Scott Steiner and turned it into a big anti-war speech about how wrong the USA is for attacking Iraq. He then was beaten up by Scott Steiner before the match could even get started, thereby making the completely and sarcastically subtle point that if you are against the war then you should have your ass kicked because you are a "bad guy".

2. They ran a promo for a new French tag team who are coming to the WWE because they feel upset that Americans think of the French as wimps and they want to teach our country a lesson.

these are the kinds of angles that should NEVER end up as wrestling storylines.

I really really like Chris nowinski. I think he's going to go places in the next couple years. but yeah that is a fucking shitty plot line and also scott steiner couldn't wrestle his way out of a paper bag.

I don't know anything about wrestling, but there is this Iron Sheik interview with Opie and Anthony from last year that's floating around on the net somewhere probably, and it's pure gold.

vince mcmahon's politics are incredibly fucked up.

these sorts of storylines accompany every conflict scenario that the U.S. enters.

although at times i wonder; the time-honored "canadian wrestler rips on lazy americans and basically calls them assholes" speeches that get trotted out every year or so seem a little too on-the-money to be laughed at. they sort of reflect a liberal viewpoint, but at the same time i think you can read between the lines and sense the ramblings of a true ultra-patriot...

then, when you start to look at the scripting for women's roles in his world - you open up an even bigger shitstorm.

actually, i guess what they say is true. wrestling is written to reflect the whims of the public.

also, SHUT UP AVI in advance

I can't believe you dorks watch this stuff. Soap operas for adolescent boys!

i agree with josh. its all about the spectacle of it all and sometimes i like humor of some of the wrestlers in their character promos. i really have a strong dislike for sports for the most part but i enjoy watching wrestling which is weird.

nick: i find it difficult to take anything i hear a wrestler say on tv seriously because i know its all a big scripted soap opera like avi says. so if i sense a bit of ultra-patriotism in the storyline i know its just exagerated for the purpose of selling tickets. whereas when i see the undertaker ride down to the ring on his bike with an american flag hanging off the back i see it more as the man behind the character showing some respect without being too preachy because it doesn't become part of the storyline.

if that makes any sense at all.
