Pop Rock Mix

Thanks dude! I actually like the snare, it was a black panther, dont know which one though, solid drummer as you can hear. The kick is dan kick blended with the original track :)

Thanks guys,

This wasn't tracked by me though. I know the vocals were already compressed when tracking. So from the top of my head I think it's: cla 1776 > Req > Rvox > Req > deesser, then there''s busses with different types of delays and 2 layers of verbs. I think vocals were tracked through a NT2A if I remember from the file labels.

Guitars were both telecaster and stratocaster and I know a vox ac30 and pretty much one of the most expensive 65 amps were used, those that have 2 different speakers, so I had 2 different tones from that amp to work with which was quite cool. In mixing, I think guitars were very simple, eq > la2a (needle barely moving) > eq and that's about it, nothing too drastic though, just some sculpting that needed to be done

Killer atmosphere.

The vocals could be a TOUCH brighter or come up a touch.
The guitars are quite muddy/cloudy. I can't say I'm digging them much.
I kinda like the snare.. it sorta fits. Quite unique. It's popping out a little too much though.
Kick could be a little brighter in the chorus, perhaps automate an EQ.
The cymbals sound really cheap. Nasty brightness, but it sounds like bad mics, not much you can do.

Sorry if I'm harsh! I actually REALLY like the mix and the music, they work together really really well.
That intro is amazing. The clean guitar in the first verse is also awesome. Did you have any delay or anything on it? I struggle with clean guitars.. I just don't know what makes a 'good' tone.

Hi Morgan,

Not harsh at all dude, thats the kind of criticism I like!

I did shave off a bit of low-mids on rhythm guitars, just a little though and brought down the snare. I like the kick as it is though, it pumps just ever so slightly and it's present but not THAT apparent which IMO fits this.

Yeah, the cymbals lol, I could opt to not brighten them but it sounds pretty dull with no brightness at all in them and they had about 3 nasty peaks exactly in the highs.... which had to be removed ending up sucking the tone a bit too much, I believe that's mic placement.

What guitar are you talking about? The one that plays those chords right after the intro just with vocals?

Im gonna post the revision and another song as well :)

Great Job man!!! Nice ambient intro, very nice. It feels like the music would benefit from a more acoustic tom sound, they sound nice but maybe not for this kind of music. Snare works, but i can understand why some people don't dig it, but if it is an acoustic snare i would go with it (but i get the feeling it isn't??)

Perhaps a little bit higher vocals, atleast in the chorus.

But great work!

That's the thing, the snare sounds really good on the raw tracks, it's just maybe not the right snare for this style, I tried to make it fit, I really didnt want to replace it :/ But yeah, snare is 100% real, no blend, nothing, the drummer was a beast!
What do you mean with the toms? Maybe a bit more mids/more resonance? They're all natural btw!

About the vocals on chorus you're talking about the 1st mix or 2nd mix?

Cheers for all the words guys

I just listened to the 1 mix.

Ah cool. The thing is that people that sit at home programming drums they have a hard time understanding that you don't want to go with the same punchy smackabang snare every time. So if it is natural keep it that way, you have done a great job making it fit into the mix.

really beefy toms, that was why i thought they perhaps where samples or sample enhanced. But i would like them a bit less beefy and perhaps a bit less punch and bass and a tad more mids. Just make them sound a bit more like "real toms" if you understand what i mean :)

But as i said really nice work, the band should be really happy :)

Fuck man. This is incredible. When the group vocals come in towards the end...goddamn. Sounds so good.

Sounds like the band was really talented as well, must have been tracked in a pretty legit studio, considering the drums are all natural.

Great job on the mix man.

Drummer knew how to tune his drums pretty damn well. It was tracked at our studio but not by me, I think toms were miced with e609s.
I know what you mean, making them sound a bit more "real", but I got used to them sounding so beefy it makes me sad taking that out :(
But yeah, only thing sampled and its a blend is really the kick, the cymbals for me are what is lacking a bit, because I think they were too close to the cymbals themselves but what that gave me was a really good drum sound so I built the whole drum sound from the overheads.

Thanks a lot dude, really appreciate it!! :)
