I have a 30G black Ipod, and its my best friend. I always buy my cd's but I don't like taking them along 'cause I'm afraid they'll get scratched, so the ipod is a good solution.
The only thing that bugs me about the ipod, is that they expect you to get a new one every couple of years cause of the battery life and stuff

It's not the battery life that makes you buy a new one, because there are many options now to replace the battery, and even upgrade the hard drive. What makes you buy a new iPod over other brands are the new features they keep coming out with, like gapless playback, video, and games on the 5G. It's options we can tell ourselves we don't need, but as soon as you get one in your hands, it sells itself. Love them or hate them, Apple and the iPod is at the front of changing the way we listen to, and purchase music.

To be honest, those features really don't persuade me to buy a different player. I just want a reliable and tough player. I mean, sure the features are impressive and would be handy but I wouldn't fork out extra cash for them. And I wouldn't buy a player I thought was subpar just for those features.

well, I guess you're rrght. I already had an ipod photo, but I really wanted a video-so now I can watch lamentations on it. :)

I have one, I plan to get another bigger one.

It's a more efficient format, it parallels the progression of floppy discs, to CD's to USB sticks, the way we store and access information has changed and is continuing to change.

Consider Sky+, you no longer have to record your televison on to a video or even DVD recorder, you can watch the tele vision you want to when you want to, essentially rendering DVD recorders an absolete medium before they ever really took off.

Personally I think they way things are going, if we give it ten or fifteen years CD's will become a collectors format like vinyl, but since they don't have attached to them the idea that, 'It just sounds better...etc...etc..." perhaps not.

It's purely about effeciency, I have a choice, I can either take my, 2GB .mp3player, whiche measures around 5x3x0.75 inches with me or I can take 33 hours worth of CD's? People who drive, have no problem messing around with CD changers and don't have to worry about their CD being stolen, we no longer have to bother with burning songs to CD.

As for the digital nay sayers, DVD, Blue Ray, Digital TV, .mp3, it is coming and you can't stop it, give it a few years and all the problems with digital will be worked out, the more people who get on board the more people there are complaining and the more the companies and developers will do to sort out the problems. And the idea that it encourags piracy is ridiculous, go out, buy a CD, rip it to your computer, put it on your .mp3 player, sorted.
