As we prepare to start rehearsing again, there's much talk within our camp about exactly which songs we'll be choosing to play live this fall. Of course, there are a few 'must-play' favourites, but as for the rest, I'd like to ask you guys what you want to hear!

The current WOODS OF YPRES back catalogue math looks like this: 3 albums, exactly 30 tracks, approx 2 hours and 40+ minutes of music. Damn! All of a sudden :)rolleyes:) there's lots to choose from!

So, go!! :heh:

...should be interesting.

Intro: The Shams of Optimism 3:01
Crossing the 45th Parallel 6:47
Thrill of the Struggle 6:29
The Will to Give 7:35
The Northern Cold 5:31
Deepest Roots 2:12
Darkest Blues 4:54
Shedding the Deadwood 5:23 (or another mellower song)
Your Ontario Town 5:33
Deadhouse 4:00
A Meeting Place and Time 8:47

1 hour, 14 seconds

Intro: The Looming Of Dust (And The Illumination) (I can't remember the actual name of the song! I had mp3s first, and then I got the CD, and I think they're different!)
The Sea Of Immeasurable Loss
The Will To Give
Your Ontario Town
Allure of the Earth
Through Chaos and Solitude I Came
Crossing the 45th Parallel
The Northern Cold
A Meeting Place And Time

That might get in the realms of 45-60 minutes, not sure!

The Northern Cold
A Meeting Place And Time
The Will To Give
Your Ontario Town Is A Burial Ground
Distractions Of Living Alone
December In Windsor
Allure Of The Earth
Through Chaos And Solitude I Came
Summers Envy
The Sea Of Immeasurable Loss

right around sixty minutes!

The Shams of Optimism
Crossing the 45th Parallel
Deadhouse
Shedding the Deadwood
The Ghosts of Summers Past
The End of August
The Northern Cold
A Meeting Place and Time

Taking into account that a 45-60 minute set definitely doesn't allow for 60 solid minutes of music unfortunately.

Opening: Northern Cold

Main show: Woods II
And from Woods II the must plays:
Intro/Looming of the Dusk --> The Will To Give
Allure of the Earth
Dragged Across A Forest Floor
Summers Envy
The Sun Was In My Eyes is great too, but I think it's gonna be a drag ( is that the right word for it?) when seeing/heering it live.

Encore: Your Ontario Town is a Burial Ground

That would be it till i get to know the rest a bit better. :Smug:

Songs marked with * are not neccesarily staples of Woods of Ypres, but are perhaps my personal favourites. Does'nt mean they wouldn't be cool live

The Northern Cold
The Shams of Optimism
Crossing the 45th Parallel
December in Windsor
Deepest Roots*
Darkest Blues*
Allure of the Earth*
The Sea of Immeasurable Loss
End of Tradition*
The Ghosts of Summers Past*
A Meeting Place and Time

Oh and the Deadhouse cover wold be nice too

This a very good and very hard question. I'll try to keep it under 60 min but I can't promise it.

Ahh so close total running time 1h /6m /32sec

The Looming of Dust in the Dark
The Sun Was In My Eyes (Parts 1 & 2)
Dragged Across A Forest Floor
The Northern Cold
Shedding the Deadwood
The Shams of Optimism
Crossing the 45th Parellel
A Meeting Place and Time

approx. 55 minutes

1- The Northern Cold
2- A Meeting Place And Time
3- Distractions Of Living Alone
4- Summer's Envy
5- The Sun Was In My Eyes : Part One
6- Thrill Of The Struggle
7- Crossing The 45th Parallel
8- End of tradition
9- Outro : The end Of August

Encore :

10- Your Ontario Town Is A Burial Ground

59 min.

^ I'm gonna take that one and just switch it around slightly

1- The Northern Cold
2- A Meeting Place And Time
3- Distractions Of Living Alone
4- Allure of the Earth
5- Dragged Across a Forest Floor
6- Thrill Of The Struggle
7- End of tradition
8 - Mistakes Artists Make

Encore :

9- Your Ontario Town Is A Burial Ground

58 minutes

While Summer's Envy is a sweet song, I don't know how well it would translate live, and I think Allure of the Earth would be mesmerizing live. I also think Dragged would be beyond epic live, not to mention the brutal outro. That adds a bunch of time, so I dropped Crossing the 45th for Mistakes Artists Make, which I also think would slay live, especially with the wicked outro. All in all, I really think you should play Thrill of the Struggle (talk about serious headbanging) and Distractions of Living Alone, for the sheer amount of emotion packed into that song. And you're obviously gonna do Ontario Town so I don't have to say anything about that :p

Set #2

A great start to the show would be the massive quad-fecta (and about 24 minutes of the set) of

Intro: The Looming of Dust in the Dark (and the Illumination)
The Will To Give
The Sun Was In My Eyes: Part One
The Sun Was In My Eyes: Part Doom

Then mellow it out with
December in Windsor

followed by
Your Ontario Town
Deepest Roots
Darkest Blues
The Northern Cold

and closing out with the 'oldies'
The Sea of Immeasurable Loss
A Meeting Place and Time

All three eras played in chunks, and again just around 1 hour in length...
