That attitude will end up hurting you in the long run. You're better off listening to and checking out BANDS. Not genres.Shit. I knew I should never have given anything that has a genre label of something-core a second chance.
I really try to be the most tolerant of metalheads, but there is nothing that can make me enjoy these deathcore bands. Even when bands like Carnifex and Job for a Cowboy throw out a lot of the breakdowns and just play regular death metal for the most part, it's always incredibly sterile and derivative and I don't understand why anyone would give a second of their time to these albums when bands like Immolation are still killing shit.
I guess the popularity comes from the labels pushing them down the kids' throats and the fact that these kids love anything with a breakdown you can karate chop to. I try to listen to all the bands that come out and it seems that the only criteria for getting signed is to have good production and a singer with sick sleeves, bro.
Yes and no. I agree that you should listen to bands, and not simply reject a band based on genre, but genres are useful in categorizing bands and describing them - all you have to do is not let them become a straitjacket.IGNORE GENRES.

+1
As just a side note I was in Suffocation for about 6 months till they decided to go "Deathmetal - Cookie Monster BS" me and Terrance were in HS together and prett good buddies. The band was more of a Megadeth clone when I was in it. Actually 2 or 3 of the riffs me and terrance wrote were on Human Waste. Honestly the only band I could ever tolerate in the whole DM genre was Carcass. But Terrance is cool as shit and has been a friend for a long time. Its great when a band from a neighboring town makes it and does well for themself
