this has probably been discussed before, but im still wondering.... why do some people call Nevermore power metal?
i wouldent call it power metal, since it is oh so totally unique... ... but what (stupid?) person would say that?

Don't really know. My cousin is into Nevermore. That's about all I know. There is that one dude whose in this board. We also have these SMS-chat shows here on the TV which you probably have also where i've seen some messages about NM.

Only way to really know how many fans there are is to get NM to play here. The Blind Guardian gig here last month was packed and it was their first time here.

There are 2 forms of metal known as power metal, which have been divided into 2 sub-genres known as American Power Metal and European Power Metal, due to the prevalence of the style in the respective areas (there are Euro Power bands from the US, and Amer. Power bands in Europe, though). I personally think the whole "power metal" genre should be dropped, and Euro power metal should be known as "Cheesy, repetitive metal" (j/k, but there should be 2 separate genre names because the 2 genres are not very similar). American power metal is bands like Sanctuary, old Fates Warning, and early Nevermore. Nevermore has become more of a thrash band over the years, though, fitting in very nicely with bay area thrash bands like Forbidden. Euro power metal is stuff like Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius, etc, and sounds pretty much nothing like American power metal.

Really American power metal should just be "power metal" since it focuses on a more powerful sound, and Euro should be "epic metal" or something like that (though some contend there is an "epic metal" genre which is different from Euro power metal, though I haven't been able to hear the difference).

How about that old Pantera -Power metal stuff (pre Cowboys). Why are those 3 first albums so hard to find? Heh. Not all Euro power metal can be considered "cheesy" for example some older Rage albums. (Black In Mind, End Of All Days)

I agree with jimbob on his classifications- nevermore is more of a thrash band nowdays- with forbidden and meshuggah influences, yet i think the original power metalish Nevermore album, might be the reason nevermore got lumped in with power metal. Or maybe it was because power metal was selling well in 98-99-2000, and neo thrash was not.
