Is there any poweramp vst?
I know revalver has a lot of well-known poweramps, but I would like to test any other vst's and free if it's possible.
Only poweramps, i'm not speaking about preamps.
I think the behaviour of the poweramp is the hardest thing to model, and get to sound right with the huge difference in transformer's characteristics :\ poweramp's are often just implemented as a "passive" waveshaping-filter with symmetrical soft-clipping which give a mid-range boost and some extra harmonics, if I remember correct, Line6 used to model poweramp's that way in the first POD's(from an early patent).. but I'll guess sooner or later someone will release a poweramp vst, it it doesn't already exist
I'm not sure really... haven't seen much stuff like that. Revalver would probably be your best bet for power amps but then again, I'm not sure how well it models those power amps.
Sort of. They can't capture the full character of the power amp, just a small "window" of it. That's why they made the multi-sample impulse thingy (Nebula, I think was the name), which gets a wee bit closer.
Yeah, was just gonna say... impulses capture the power amp the same way they capture the cab which is like taking a single frame from the middle of a movie and then trying to guess what the movie is about and how it started and how it's going to end. A true cab and poweramp simulation should simulate all the non-linearities which is the tricky part :S
exactly-there are still important elements of a power amp that can be physically modelled. There would be probably be some advantage for dynamics vs just using impulse
