Pre Amp for Acoustic Guit

Hi guys

I had a gig this weekend and the technician on the desk told me about using an Acoustic Guitar Preamp. The thing is that we are playing acoustic guitars lately and we use a DI, but he told me that this isn't enough to get all the meat from the guitar. He compressed my signal and worked a lot with it, but it lacked in some parts when I played a solo.

Do you have any experience with this? Does it worth?
