No it hasn't, just updated, its now the 7602 Mk.II, it has a whopping 80db of gain, plus that killer EQ.

You'll be fine, the signal won't be super strong but we record at 24 bit anyways, just crank the fader, who cares.

Yup, not to mention the output slider on the compressor plugin you should definitely be using!

That was exactly what I was thinking. The chances of me picking the SM7 for someones vocals almost completely guarantees that there would be a compressor on it. (Likely with a makeup gain setting)

Why the hell do you need so much gain on an sm7? I regularly track death metal vox on my Great River MP2NV with about 30-40 db of gain, depending on the vocalist.


As per the original question, you might want to try the MP1NV & an SM7. You should be able to get that for around $1500.

Anyone use the Art MPA gold?

I hear that once you scrap the crappy stock tubes for sumint a bit decent such as..... Tung-sol, groove tubes or telephunkens you can get some great results and bang for ya buck.

£280ish with the tube change seems real good but would it be any good for hard arsed music....anyone?????
