So I was stupid enough to buy a SM7 that was supposed to run into my dbx 166XL without buying a preamp to drive the dbx (we all know the SM7 needs crazy amount of gain)...
Will a Presonus TubePRE (found a cheap used one) work for this purpose or will it make my SM7 sound... well... cheaper?

Could you elaborate why? I'm not really looking for color (it wouldn't hurt tho, I suppose... and hope), I just want the signal boosted so I can use the dbx!

That's precisely why I would go for the DMP3, out of the cheap preamps it really strikes me as the cleanest and least colored (no tube nonsense :D)

Yeah I thougt so : (
I have looked at the DMP3, but my budget is very limited after my big thomann order...
How cheap do you think I can get off without regreting it later on? Is the DMP3 "as low as you go"? How would it compare to lets say a SP VTB1 (yeah, tube there aswell... but it's blendable)?

Can't say for certain, as I haven't used either, but a lot of people on here seem to dig the VTB1, so I doubt you'd dislike it! (though I'd rather have the M-Audio, and the price difference is only $30 here, is it more over there?)
