Alright so I bought one of these fucking things because I am just so sick of the amount of hi-hat bleed I always have in my snare tracks. I have tried all kinds of positions with the mic with no luck, and I always have the hats in the null of the mic I'm using. So here we go. Two clips. Both of them are the same thing, 1st half with the Crashguard, 2nd half without it. The difference between the clips is the first is just raw, the 2nd has typical snare track processing (compression, EQ). Both are using a SM57 with the null of the mic pointed at the hats, just poking over the edge of the snare, 2 fingers width above the rim. These are only the snare mic track.

It basically sounds like a low-pass filter is being applied to the hi-hats. It also affects the sound of the snare a bit as well, not terribly but it is noticeably different. While it does help somewhat, once you add compression and EQ you are still faced with quite a bit of HH bleed in the mic, it's just not as bright as it would be without the CG.
