Primordial on the reality of touring in the States

San Fran sounds like a better option for you in my opinion.

Castro is too gay for me. The porn shops line the streets. The cookie shops serve chocolate cookies in the shape of big black dongs. It's fun for a novelty, but I couldn't live there.

The city itself, however, is fantastic. Been there a number of times and would definitely live there if I could. Wonderful farmers market and seafood. Just way, waaaaay too expensive.

In Brazil it's the other way around... You can sell your stuff at small venues and they won't bother you... I always have merch booths and keep 100% of the revenue.. And when the artists bring merch themselves, I sell it for them on my booth and let them keep 100%.

Now.. In big venues, it's a nightmare. They will ask for close to 50%.

Not to get off topic... But yeah! I was there last year and it was one of nicest cities I've ever been in. Loved it.

Merch cut is a big reality, but only if bands let it be. like someone said you just stand firm in your contracts with bigger clubs or play smaller clubs who have promoters with the same mindset as Glenn.

we did our last two summer tours and made sure we had no merch cuts. you just make it happen. if the club wants the tour bad enough they will drop that money to have the bands play. plus there is nothing more insulting as a touring band to have a promoter/club get a cut of your merch money that they didn't do anything to contribute to in the first place besides having a club, that YOUR fans come to see YOUR band perform at.

again, that is just my take on it.

Reading something like this can piss me off, especially when crappy bands here in the states rake in millions. This is even more reason why metal fans should BUY their band's music and not rely on torrents. Its simply the right thing to do in order to support your favorite musicians.

Agreed. I consider it a total bullshit theory that small bands should tour the US, and make a living selling merchandise.

Four to five band members plus crew aren't going to live very well on $400 per night minus expenses. Aside from the fact that musicians don't invest years learning to play, writting, recording, and practicing music in order to become traveling t-shirt salesmen.

Buy the damn music!
