Hi Guys,

I've just bought a saffire pro 14 firewire. Had to buy a firewire pci card for my machine, so i made sure i got a supported one by saffire "VIA VT6306"

I'm still having problems with it syncing. Sometimes it does and works, but next time i restart my machine it won't. Tried running the Saffire using the power adapter and the powered FW cable.

When it does synch, i can get the ASIO down to about 192 samples before clicks and pops. One thing i've noticed when looking at the saffire mix control is that when the interface is not in use, some of the channels flicker with activity at random.

It seems to run flawless on dad's mac mini though :/

AMD X2 250 3ghz
4GB Ram
ECS MCP61 Motherboard
8800 GTS
Via vt6306 pci firewire card
OCZ 500W Psu

Any help appreciated!

Alex

What driver latency is selected in mix control? and are you plugging it in before you turn your computer on?

Maybe try re-intalling mix control, it might fix the problem.

As I stated before, you people shouldn't be using the legacy FW driver since Focusrite added support for Windows 7 on the drivers (and this was a long time ago), unless you want to miss using the latest (and not so latest) drivers.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I've tried both the legacy and normal latest driver, both make no difference.

I do have a wireless usb dongle, tried it with and without, also no difference!

Try disabling any devices you think could be affecting it. Mostly anything that has to do with anything wireless. My PC has an Infrared Receiver device that totally fucked over my interface and any interface I would hook up when it was enabled. I'm kinda doubting this is your problem but it's worth a shot.

dpc latency checker is all green, 59US latency roughly.

The only thing i have wireless in my pc is the usb dongle, but i disable it and it still doesn't change.

I'm using a supported VIA 6306 FW pci card, should i change to a TI texus instrument one? Everyons seems to say they are the best

You might want to give it a shot, they cost like 15 usd so it is not a lotta money. Have you contacted Focusrite tech support?

Listen to me my friend. I own a Saffire Pro 24 and was dealing with different FW cards. The ones with chip VIA VT6306, VT6307, VT6308, VT6315N work well but not as low latency as the Texas Instruments (TI) TSB43AB22 or TSB43AB23.
I'm now using a TI TSB43AB22 pci card; it is the best one that I tested and I get 3 times lower latency than the VIAs.

Hi Kev

Thanks for your email.

The recommendation from TC is that on Windows 7-64 you continue to use the Legacy FireWire driver for now (http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1030#LegacyDriver), as the performance seems to be better than with the standard driver. This may go some way to explaining the performance change that you have seen.

That's weird. I was adviced by the same dude that one should not be using the legacy driver. Maybe it is adviced for certain problems and mine wasn't one of them. I am still very possitive that the issue will be solved when he gets a TI FW card.

Bumping this thread since I have trouble with my Saffire pro 14 as well.

I get fine sound all around, but after about 1 minute of playing, the sound crackles, the FW led flickers, and the sound dies. Then after 2 secs it gets back to where it was. Obviously this makes recording impossible and playing somewhat joyless.

I already switched to the legacy driver, didn't help at all.

Specs:

Intel core i7 830 2.93 GHz
8gb ram
windows 7 64 bit

Any help would be very appreciated :)
