Dude!! That's Crimson Moonlight, right?!?

We played a couple of shows together in spring.
They kick some serious ass.
If you talk to the guys again, say hello from the guitar player
of Sacrificium.

Sounds good on a mono pc-speaker ;-)

haha.. yeah.. that's crimson allright :)
I'll say hello from you when I talk to them. This is a track from their upcoming album. Be sure to check it out 2dark!

heard it on my stereo last night.
And I like it. It's much better than 'The Covernant Progress'.
The sound is more tight and cleaner but not too much.
During blastbeats the snare sounds kind of odd, but that has nothing to do with mastering.

2dark: About the snare.. could you be more specific? If you're thinking sound-wise we didn't go for a "real" drumsound.. more of a Borgir type trigged. Maybe you're talking about the actual playing? It is a bit wobbly though... I know. Couldn't do much about it. The drummer insisted on not recording with a clicktrack so it's basically the guitarplayer and the drummer jamming away live. I fixed the most "off" sequences as best I could but it would take about 7 days of drumediting if you wanted this to work all the way through, and we didn't have that kind of time.

Daunt: Glad you like it. Been getting some really good repsonses about that sound. It's nothing fancy really... It's a three channel Mesa Dual Rectifier with a special modification... it's one of a kind really. Through an ENGL 4x12" with Vintage 30 speakers and miked with two SM57s through a Vintech Dual97 preamp.. you're hearing mostly one mik though. Guitar is an Ibanez 7string with Seymore Duncan pickups. Dubbed once..

Ok, thanks for the info. You didn't use any processing in the mix?

What I ment with the snare is that it actually sound good during the slow parts.
But when the blastbeats starts is just sounds like 'flap-flap-flap-flap...' and it covers
the kick of the kickdrum and some guitars a bit too much.
I'll listen to it on some different speakers when I get my car back from the shop today (and fixed hopefully).

Daunt: The only processing taking place on the guitars is just some basic EQ. No compression or anything... just straight in.

2dark: Yes.. I know exactly what you mean. I would sum that up to the actual playing. A lot of times the snare and the kick is hit very closely together and what you get then is of course non-definiton. When you have grinds/blasbeats this fast and you want this "unnatural" definiton of snare and kick, it has to be played very very well to make room for everything else in the mix. When the drums in this case are always changing quite a lot in terms of tempo and micro-relations in a short period of time (for instance the actual distance between a struck snare and kick in a complete blastbeat sequence), the ear draws attention to this change and easily neglects the other elements in the mix. This is why similar mixes with a superb drummer or actual programmed drums sound much cleaner, open and easier to listen to.

I didn't like the drum situation at first, but now I find it quite charming since this is basically how the guys sound live if you happen to catch them on a great gig.

yeah its pretty cool, is it full on corpse paint??? tell me it is, is it panda metal??

Couple of comments, the snare and the kick sound a little too similar in pitch and tone to me, try getting a bit more crack on the snare, separate them a little.
Oh's seemed a little back and bass seemed a bit lost, but gtrs sounded great.
It's difficult with this kinda stuff to get the cymbals out I know, due to the speed and the way drummers hit at that tempo.
Bass wise, try a bit more of that 1k in there, get it working on smaller speakers.
Good stuff though.

HAHA!! PANDA METAL!! Holy shit that's GOOD STUFF!! HAHA!!
:yow:

haha.. thx a lot Andy, I appreciate your comments. Having the OH laid back is a choice I had to make. The drummer had really cheap cymbals that sounded well... very very thin and crappy and didn't come through well at all, to put it in a nice way. Having it right up there really took away a lot of definition from the rest of the mix so I had to turn it down. Point taken on the bass sound.

Glad you liked the guitars!
