Progpower III

Having attended last years festival, I can attest that this show is an absolute blast. Forget how great the music is, the people are so awesome. I can't even tell you how many great folks we met last year. It was a five day party. That being said, Opeth's inclusion in this festival would make it that more special for me. Although I have been fortunate enough to see them twice, on their recent stint with Nevermore, I would love a chance to see them in a great venue like Earth Link Live.

Mikael, if by chance you read this, you will really be impressed with the setup. I had a chance to speak to many of the musicians who played last years festival, and they were all exceptionally pleased with the venue, and it's sound and lighting people.

No they aren't, Mikael was saying it's expensive to fly over here etc. But he said they'd try their best to get over here, let's keep our fingers crossed :D

I hereby start the “Give Opeth some fucking money so they can fly to Atlanta fund” Surely all of us yankees here can pull together enough for them

Well, to paraphrase what I said in another thread, should Opeth be confirmed to play Progpower, I suggest that those of us who can, make arrangements to CONVERGE ON ATLANTA for the oft-discussed, never-really-feasible Opeth Forum Meeting. Perhaps we can plan some common lodging somewhere so we can make it a multi-day event, a veritable Opeth Party Vacation, as it were, culminating in us all watching Opeth perform live, together.

Does this strike anybody else as being not only somewhat feasible but potentially severely cool?

Jim LotFP: well, you were able to assist in funding Nightingale's trip... with the aid and cooperation of those of us here who would hope to attend, can something similar be arranged for Opeth? Oh, and you would have to make sure to get us all tickets... :D

I agree that this would be probably one of the few opportunities for members of the Opeth forum to meet. I think it would be pretty cool to meet up with everyone and possibly just 'hang out' and do whatever during the day before the shows.

I would like to do whatever I can to make this possible. Maybe we can develop a porn site with lots of banners and send the proceeds to Opeth. ;) We don't have to worry about hotel reservations because we could all just stay at Jim's house. :D Seriously, I hope Jim can get tickets for those who won't be able to get them.

With how I feel about meeting people from the "net" (I've always been skeptical), this is totally different. I would drag the family down to Atlanta with me. If there ever was a chance (and a reason) for a way for Opeth forum members to meet collectively, this would be it (at least for us North Americans).

And it would be totally cool to meet everybody I've been typing with over the past months .

It would be a bonus if for some reason, those overseas would happen to be around Atlanta at that time.

But all of this will be for naught if Opeth can't swing this event. Then we'd have to wait for a future US tour to plan a get together.

it's really cool, but at the same time, really strange meeting people from the net.
Last summer I went to a big gaming convention- Quakecon- which was essentially a massive LAN party. I met several people which I had first met on the net... it was weird because it's like a collision of worlds. It was hard for me to combine the net world with the physical world in my head. One moment, someone is made up of text and pictures constructed as a human in my mind. Then suddenly they are something of the physical world, living and breathing as other people outside of the net world do. Very weird... but still a very cool and interesting experience :D

i'd love to meet some of you people. you are all incredibly interesting.
