No, i would not consider it technical metal. I would consider it as black metal, very original black-metal at that, but still black-metal.

But no, not technical metal.

Not that I'm knowledgeable about the technicalities of music enough to make this judgement myself, but I've got all the albums of the bands listed here (and Martyr and Emperor). Is Emperor's latest really not as 'technical' as these bands? The material sounds as complex, anyway.

This is something I found on the internet about technical metal:

Technical metal bands take heavy music beyond standard metal, and beyond the stagnant, pompous art-rock that has come to be known as "prog metal." These bands often blend elements from classical and jazz to create extremely complex, original heavy music.

Bands listed:
Cynic - a jazz influenced technical death metal band. Death metal mixed with jazzy breaks.

Meshuggah - a rythmically complex death/thrash metal band from Sweden. Insane polyrhythms.

Spiral Architect - a melodic, guitar driven technical metal band from Norway.

Watchtower - a crazy 1980s progressive thrash band from Texas.

Spastic Ink - a jazz influenced instrumental project led by Watchtower's second guitarist, Ron Jarzombek.

Lethargy - a truly original technical death/thrash band with rediculously chaotic song arrangements and a wise ass sense of humor.

These bands aren't as consistently brilliant as those above, but still definately a cut above most of the metal out there:
Aghora - a spiritual jazz/thrash project with female vocals, featuring the bassist and drummer from Cynic.
Death - a technical death metal band. Founder Chuck Schuldiner has put the band on hold for a power/thrash metal project called Control Denied. Chuck is recouperating from a brain tumor and hopefully will recover fully.
Theory in Practice, a Swedish technical metal band growing beyond the strong Meshuggah influence in their early work.
Candiria - a jazz, latin, hardcore fusion band from NYC.

Watchtower's singer is very painful to listen too and worse then your standard DT clones.

The singers in psychotic Waltz and Spiral Architect both sound like Getty Lee(rush) during their 2112 era.

You can hear the PW influence alot in the guitar playing on PoE. It's too bad that you can only purchase copies of the first two PW discs.

2 things piss me off here. Chuck Schuldiner is Dead, ( RIP ) how can you recomend a band and not be aware his founder/creator/basicallyallthebandhimself man its dead? Im not saying its your duty to know he is dead but i mean it has been around everywhere for a time now.

Nope. Most of it is pretty simple music... There is a bit of a prog influence, but not terribly technical when it comes to playing the stuff. Technical metal is actually a genre of metal i guess, and it doesn't include EVERY single band that uses a strange time signature or odd bars or anything like that.

Satori... PW were doing this WAAY before D(amn) T(ryhards) were doing it. It's different music anyhow. ©1986 was when they were around... BTW, it's about the music, not the vox. How the hell can you put up with Mikael's GGGGRRRRRRRR AAAAAAAAAHHHH ACK COUGH UUUUUUUURRRRRHHHHHGGG if you can't actually put up with proper singing?

Hell yeah! I love their first album but sadly haven't checked out "Dying For Life" yet. I saw the drummer at ProgPower 2.0 in Atlanta, and he seemed like a cool guy. I definitely need to check out their new album. I'd like to see them play in Ohio(their home state) sometime...have a friend who lives there.
