Hey, has anyone here heard the song "Pure" played live? And if so, on the part where Ted says "like the calming raaaaaiiiiiiin..", and holds that note forever, how well does he pull it off? That part is just so damn cool, and it seems like it'd be hard to get it just right every time.

Pure is easily in my top 5 "must need to hear live before I die" list. It's easily the greatest song on Wounded and probably off the first two albums too(maybe tied with Nighttime Sky). I love that huge sustained note then Doug's guitar solo right after that. Truly beautiful

We have played Pure more than a few times, and probably will again, as well as Nighttime Sky, with Enchant anything is possible? believe me! Wickerman Ted nails it everytime!

Artstar we have the same two favorite songs from the first two! although Hostile World and East of Eden are right there for me! and damn fun live! S#*t why are we not playing those guys?

By the way your post on the Spocks site killed me! I am still laughing! but we are not opening the NJ show, unfortunatly. But you won,t be ...............yourself seven times til Sunday at least :)

We even talked about doing an Acoustic Version of Pure.

So Wickerman maybe you will hear Ted wail that note someday with Dougs sustained Guitar note! I vote for it!

On wounded the sustained note Ted sings sounds endless. This is a trick right? No one has that much breath. The guitar takes over, but then the voice seems to go on for ever. Me and my friends were always wondering how you would pull this off live.

Hehe...yeah Ed, I got a little carried away I guess but really, I have yet to see two of my favorite bands live(Enchant and Marillion) and I will do anything for the chance!

Hostile World's a great song too. That bass in the intro is killer and that synth passage that runs trhough the middle and end is awesome. I think Distractions is really underrated from Wounded though...what do you think of that one?

Artstar

I was listening to Wounded yesterday actually driving, I have not really listened to it all the way through for a long time. I get frustrated sometimes with the older discs recording quality, although Doug really made this disc sound a lot better than the first one, especially with what he had to work with at the time.

You can actually here some Bass on Wounded there is none on BPOTW. Although it is still a long way from the sound we got on Tug of War.

I forget what a cool tune Distrations is, great lyrics from Ted as well, I love the song actually nearly as much as Pure and Hostile World, My other favorite is Look Away, one of Dougs best ever! The guitar solo is very cool! That song gets forgotten as well, and the one that just missed being really killer was Armor? The original demo had the coolest biggest sounding Keyboards that Doug actually recorded on the demo himslelf?

The Piano sound that got used is nothing like the original one! I always loved that song and thought it could have been really great! I don,t think we ever played it live either?

We did play Distractions live in 97 at the Fillmore in SF on Dougs Birthday, and it was one of my favortites thet night. And hey that was opening for none other than........................... Marillion.! The song I miss playing the most live is Hostile World! To me that one always worked and rocked hard over all the rest! Maybe I am a bit partial to that one because of the bassline, even though it burns my damn wrist off playing it!
