...wouldn't the name be registered throughout the would if the band has released a couple of through a proper record company.

No. Unless you physically registered the name in every territory in which it (the band) operated, and you could only do that if you had a registered office in every territory. But obviously if you're a globally established act, there's no need because it's automatically recognised as your band's name.
