So Steve wrote three songs on the new album right? Does that mean Jeff wrote everything else, both guitar parts on every other song and all the solo's? I figured he would write his part then Steve would do his.

Well, it would all depend. If Jeff wrote some songs before Steve joined then I am sure Jeff would have written all of the parts and Steve would just play them.

I am sure as time goes on you will see more Smyth/Loomis penned tunes.

Read the CD booklet. Smyth wrote 3, Jim wrote 1. Smyth recorded his own goddamned solos on every song he solos on.

the music is creditted to the person who wrote the song in general. Mainly just the rhythm and overall melody. Drums parts, drum fills, solos don't count. I'm sure with Nevermore, Warrel plays a part in almost every song writing all the vocal melodies, or maybe jeff comes up with most of them.

No... Warrel comes up with all the vocal melodies himself. Jeff said that one time he came up with one to go with a certain riff, and Warrel told him it sounded like shit and made a new one up.

Drums are (from what i can gather) come up with totally by Van, who records numerous different drum tracks while listening to the entire song, then he and the rest of the band chooses the one that sounds best. The solos are subjective to who wrote the song i guess... but you know, im pretty sure that the solos taken on by Steve in Final product and Psalm of lydia were written by him. In terms of Medicated nation which was written by Jim, the solo was obviously written by Jeff. I doubt that Jim can write a shred solo on bass in Jeff's badass style.

guys its not hard. theyve said in every interview when this question is asked that the way it works is as follows: jeff writes riffs and sends them to warrel who can usually immediately think of a melody to sing over it. if something works, then they get van to come in and lay down his drums. the individuals play their part. its not like jeff or warrel tell van what drums to play...they all fill their roles. it's a functional relationship.
