question about overthead mics....

is anyone listened the evergrey dvd?????
and i have a question too.............to everyone who knows.....
i'm drummer and i'm asking if overheads mics(i have 2)are better placed like ears in the direction of cymbals or one on each side of the drum???
i'm asking that because our recording man say that there's a better stereo placed like ears but i think on the contrary that placed on each side there's more space so you can better manage the stereo as you want ..........

Spaced like ears = more natural stereo image
One on each side of drum = wider stereo image

Neither is better, just different. I prefer to place a mic on each side of the kit because I like to have a wide spread of cymbals and toms.

I think in metal you'll find more people using the second method. In jazz or other more organic styles you'll find more people using the first method.
