Hey guys,

First off.. I'm not a n00b just trying to copy joey sturgis with 'giz me insta patch for prot0nez' Even though i am a little noob in regards to technology

Right.

My question is. I'm looking into getting a pod x3 to record my guitars with. I dont have the cash or room to record real amps.

I read the joey tone thread and it explains you need XT Pro or X3 or PF Platinum

Now, Im assuming this is because you get better quality when you record from SPDIF right? I know the XT bean has the same amps as the X3, but no spdif. So im guessing thats why the thread says you cant use an XT?

I have a focusrite saffire pro 14. So SPDIF is an option

Am i right in my assumptions?

Thanks for the time, and sorry if its a stupid question, but the joey tone thread doesnt mention anything about SPDIF or quality, which is what im interested in

Stevie

SPDIF is just a method of expanding your inputs on your interface (Saffire Pro 14). You will get exactly the same quality from the mic inputs as you would from SPDIF. If you don't plan on using the Pod for live, go with Pod Farm 2 software with an expansion like the metal shop.

Thanks for the reply, but i dont think you understand my question?

Im talking about the quality difference you get from recording via SPDIF as opposed to 1/4 from the Pod x3. Im guessing you get to bypass the anologue stage.

Also, the x3 has the metal expansion packs included IIRC

Going in via SPDIF allows you to bypass the AD converters in your interface and use external conversion. In your situation the converters in the X3 aren't likely to be any better than the ones in your interface, in fact if anything I'd expect them to be worse.

Best bet for using POD imo is to use the POD Farm Platinum plugin, as you have more flexibilty to adjust your tones after you've recorded them.
