Im going to buy the samples next week , and i have a noob question about it.

Wich is the most common way to combine the samples ?
z1+z4 ?
z3+z2 ?

im kinda lost on how you guys use them :loco:

hope my question is clear enough

Z1 = sample with overheads
Z2 = sample with room ambiance
Z3 = "dry" sample
Z4 = just the room sound

Combining Z1's and Z3's with Z4's is pretty common. If you use the Z2's, they're usually best left alone

fwiw... 3.0 is a tiny bit different:

Z1: with Overhead
Z3: no Overhead
Z4: SSD "BIG COMPRESSED ROOM"
Z5: NRG STUDIO A "UNPROCESSED ROOM"

No more Z2s as there really isn't a need

I almost always prefer Z1 snares, (especially in 3.0 the Z1 snares have all be really tweaked nicely)
With kicks I'll do either Z1 or Z3... Z1 has more boom and depth, Z3 is tighter and more "in your face" sounding

There you go ^.

I commonly use Z1s on snare with some Z4 ambiance in the back. I'll commonly transient design the Z4 to my needs, and sometimes use a bit of EQ there also.

Kicks either Z1 or Z3, as Steven, but commonly Z1 just to give the kick a little bit of depth. The Z1s tend to be pretty punchy and in your face even with the ambiance.

Can't wait to try out the new Z5s....

Hi there, thanks for posting. I was on the Slate site a couple of days ago because I was curious about the 3.0 version - I do own all previous versions. But that "Upgrade" Button/Page gave me a 404 error.

Maybe you can tell me here - is there a special upgrade offer for owners of the previous versions?

And is there a way to find out what versions I already own? This may sound stupid, but I don't have a clue what versions I have - I have to search the DVD's... ;-)

Thanks,
Brandy

Yeah, I've always wondered the same thing. I've heard, and I can hear while working with the samples, that they are already processed. But it will be really interesting if we can have some details about that.

^^Yeah, I know that. I just wanted to know some details about the preprocessing (version 3.5). Like what effects have been used, how heavily, etc.

it changes from sample to sample, but they are all processed as fuck. compression, eq, saturation, distortion, who knows what else. They are made to be mix ready, and they only thing they take well is EQ (don't know about the rest of you but i never had any luck with compressing them further)

thats a kit loaded up and un-tweaked. Thats how processed they are i guess. If you want raw samples this isn't for you.

It would be nice to still get just the wavs or gog files of SSD. Anyone here using the new versions that only come in the drum player? How do you go about layering them with real drums or other samples?

I don't understand what are all these Z1s Z2s ect. I have SSD 3.5 but haven't a clue what this is all about haha.
