Andy, I was just wondering how loud you normally record Peavey 5150's. I kind of prefer the tone of mine with the post gain around 2 or so. I was just curious as to what volume levels you record 5150's at, namely Arch Enemy's 5150's. Thanks. :)

i just tried that one on my block letter 5150. sounds pretty kickass ! bright yet smooth, with good clarity and bottom end chunk. highly recommended ;)

I don't have a Tubescreamer, but I have a Maxon OD808, I could try that maybe? I've used it to boost the rhythm channel which sounds pretty good, but I'll have to mess around with those settings.

It's basically the same thing.

That will sound better than an Ibanez Tube Screamer. It's basically the same only better, true to the original screamer specs, and true bypass!

why does andy use the lead over the rythm channel?

I don't think that's necesarilly true. I'm aware of him using the Rhythm Channel on albums but I forget which ones specifically. Both channels sound great in my opinion, I may end up quad tracking with 2 tracks of each myself (still undecided on this.)

Very interesting idea, I'd love to hear that. I was thinking about doing something similar with a JCM800, using the amp alone for 2 tracks and fitting a Soldano HotMod for the other 2 but haven't been able to get hold of a Hot Mod cheap enough (the last one I found on eBay had already ended and had been won by Andy!).

I was actually thinking of doing the exact same thing with my 6505 when I get my new mic pre.

And for the record, I actually prefer the Rhythm channel over the Lead, it sounds a little smoother.

I prefer the sound of the lead channel over the boosted rhythm, but both sound good. Here are my settings, I get a great old school Arch Enemy tone with my Explorer (Duncan JB in the bridge) and my Bogner cab with 2 V30's and 2 G12T 75's...

High Gain Input
Rhythm Channel Pre Gain - 3.5 Crunch out, bright out (cleans)
