Question for Borknagar (or anyone well versed in uh?Norweigen?)

I don't even have the lyrics. They're at least not in my booklet. And they were never displayed on the old Borknagar homepage. But a translation of them might be cool anyway! Especially since Asgeir mentioned that they're forcing Vintersorg to sing Norwegian when they're playing live. ;)

VINTERSORG SINGING IN NORWEGIAN!?!?!?!?! A SWEDISH GUY SINGING IN NORWEGIAN!?!?!???!! WAAAAAOOH!!!! Hehe, that'll be fun to hear!!

Translating the lyrics are no problem, but I don't have them. Guess someone should be able to give them to me, though.... No? Well, it's up to you now.

OMG!!!!
Not to be an asshole, but.. Fuck!!! That's something I don't really
wanna hear... well well... grrrr, actually it pisses me off a bit!
That would NOT be Vintersorg! :(

Hehe, I only think it's funny. Never heard a swede singing nor speaking in norwegian before. Only the other way aroud. And besides, this isn't Vintersorg, it's BORKNAGAR!!!!! Right? Swedish will be for Vintersorg.

I want Swedish to be for Vintersorg... the person..
I cannot see him singing in Norwegian...
He said in the Vintersorg forum that he never tries to be somebody he's not....
But that may be interpreted in many ways... he sings in English,
(but with a somewhat Swedish accent... which we discussed)..
well, perhaps Norwegian with a Swedish accent is ok?!? :erk:

Lol! Lordenlil, you don't think you're taking this too
serious? The songs are in Norwegian, shouldn't
they be sung in the original language? Though I
see your point with Vintersorg being himself, and
he said he doesn't want to change for Borknagar,
or try to be like the former vocalists...)

I still think it's a fun idea, and I'm looking forward
to hearing it )

No, I don't think I'm taking it too serious, because music is a
serious matter to me! I think I'm expressing my opinions about
the issue, and I would NOT like to hear the songs sung in
Norwegian by Vintersorg. :)
Swedish people speaking Norwegian sounds shitty most of the
time... but I'm open to the fact that it might be good this time.... :) *hoping*

You really think you can hear the Swedish accent when Vintersorg sings the songs with his black-metal voice? I don't think so...

Well, maybe I do..but it wasn't the black I was thinking of.
But I shouldn't really care too much about this, since it doesn't
seem like I'm gonna catch them live anyhow.

So.... Swedish and Norwegian..... are those two languages similar? ....is it easy for someone from Sweden to understand and speak Norsk (and the other way round?).... hmm just wandering...

Yes, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are similar languages and
we understand each other perfectly. It's more of a mentality thing
(national pride :)) that we never really speak in those other
languages.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Finntroll from Finland have lyrics in Svensk..... hehehe I guess they have no "national pride" problems... :p:lol:

Yes, Finntroll have Swedish lyrics, but that is because Finland has
two official alnguages, Swedish and Finnish. They sing in Swedish
because Katla has Swedish as mother tongue.

I have a bit of trouble sometimes too. If they would only slow
down sometimes, everything would be much better...

Reading danish is almost as reading norwegian, but spoken it can be difficult to understand. It depends on how fast they tak, though, and the dialect. Swedish is easy to understand most of the time. No more difficult than different dialects in norwegian, but there are more words that are different than in danish.

As for Vintersorg singing in norwegian: I wouldn't like it if they changed the language just because the new vocalist wasn't norwegian. Just as I wouldn't like it if for instance Thyrfing got a norwegian vocalist, and they changed the lyrics to norwegian. It has to be the original, and the vocalist cannot change that, no matter who s/he is.

A Swedish native I asked about the mutual intelligibility of Swedish and Norwegian told me that he didn't understand much Norwegian. At least spoken Norwegian is almost impossible to understand for him. But I guess it depends on the individual. Perhaps Swedes living closer to the border understand Norwegian better. I have no real idea, of course. But I find this whole language issue very interesting to say the least.
