Question for Fred, is my Uncanny demo an original?

I bought a copy of the Uncanny demo via ebay recently, but now that I have it, there are several things that make me doubt whether it's actually an original. First of all, the seller was listed as being in the USA, but my package arrived from Mexico (why would you list yourself as being in the USA when you're actually in Mexico, to appear more reliable?). Secondly, I bought 2 other demos from the same guy (Dark Tranquillity and Necrophobic) and all 3 demos just happen to be recorded on the exact same make of Sony cassettes.. Also the titles are written on the cassettes in the guy's own handwriting. The covers of all 3 demos also seem to be printed on the same kind of (thick) paper. They also seem too new and mint to be as old as they should be.

my bet is of course that this guy has the original and doesnt want to part with it. I bought a JEM demo kind of the same way, but after sending pics to Anders it turned out that Anders was the one who sent it out way back as it was actually his handwriting.....and it came with the lyric sheet to the original JEM demo.....so it was worth it just for that......in your case however I think maybe you got jipped....I would contact the seller and question the shit out of him....maybe get some money back or threaten to report him to ebay....if you payed with paypal you can file with them as well.....

Thanks Fred, I payed only $10.49 for it, not much, but too much for any bootleg. I payed 20 bucks each for the Necrophobic and Dark Tranquillity tapes, which then are also bootlegs. So, I'll contact the guy and see what he has to say. What made me feel pretty confident is that he has a 350+ 100% positive feedback rating.. But even that can be deceptive as it appears..

Technically Texas was Mexico...but that's another story...but that's what they do. Like you said...they put themselves as in the USA to seem more "trustworthy"...It has happened to me before so I've been through this. I just shook it off, the guy disappeared and never returned on EBay again.

Well, the guy got back to me pretty quickly and politely and told me he got the tapes through tapetrading, so no wonder they're not original. He said he did not intend to rip me off and felt unhappy about the situation. He's offering me a full refund if I'm not happy and if I return the tapes to him, which I will do when I have received the refund. The address he sent me to return the tapes to is in Hidalgo, Texas..

BTW Kevin, can you tell me if this address makes sense, as there's no street name, just some numbers:

Anyway, the guy seems to be honest, I mean, 350+ 100% positive feedback can't be very wrong.. I got ripped off a few months ago by some guy who had like 13 positive feedbacks as a buyer and had no feedback from buyers. Apparently he just bought some stuff on ebay to build some feedback to appear reliable and then go ahead and rip people off..
