Questions about one of the Lunar Strain album covers

Is that a bird of some sort on that album cover version of Lunar Strain? Was that the original album cover or the one used for Lunar Strain/Subterranean? Sorry if it has been discussed before.

I'm pretty sure that's for the LS/Sub re-release.

Definitely a bird. It looks to me as if it's sitting inside a window frame or something. It looks a bit worse for wear as well.

As a side note, I think that cover was originally used for the Japanese version of The Jester Race. And then later on it was reused for the Lunar Strain/Subterranean 2-on-1 re-release. The original cover is HERE.
