hey guys i traded my mkII for this recently however im having a hard time with it,

i mean i love the voicing of this thing but i dont know wether or not this is my 57 acting up. thing is somehow the two wire on the inside of the mic came undone and i put them back on, solder etc, but im not sure if i did it the right way around

thus all my re-amps seem to be quite muddy sounding.

its a harley benton vintage 2x12 v30's on the edge of the cone single 57 on axis

2.5" off the grill.

any advice would be lovely

the mix was just a quickie with a eq and c4 on guitars

Too smooth for a 5150. 2.5 inches of the grill is way too far IMO. Put that bugger about an inch off the cloth, and point her straight at the line between the cone and the center. Should bring it to life nicely.

Mic seems fine though.

EDIT:
Also, see how close you are to these settings:

Lead channel-

Pre 11, 12 oclock

Low 1 oclock

Mid 9, 10 oclock

High 11, 12 oclock

Post 9.30, 10 oclock

Res 2 oclock

Pres 3 oclock

hey mate :)

between the line and center? how do you mean matey?

my low is at full

mid same as yours

high same

res a bit higher and pres is a bit lower,

shall i give it a shot with those settings?

oh and the maxon is

overdrive 9 o clock

tone 1 o clock

balance/level 1 o clock

Try the settings i gave you above for the amp.

On the Maxon-

Level 12 oclock
Drive 9 oclock
Tone 11 oclock

so the idea is the edge of the 57 lined up with the edge of the cone?

i had the middle of the 57 on it so the other edge hung slightly over :/

Well, that pic is just one example. I tend to point the center of the mic at the edge of the cone, so just a little further to the right in that image.

The guitars sound much better man! Good job :) The Bass guitar is a little loud and kind of tubby though.

turns out it was my 57 that was bust. explains the wierd tone as ive just put a unboxed 57 on it and they're worlds apart....in a good way
