Quick question!

Because people who listen to this subgenre called "melodic death metal" (I'm not talking about real melodic death metal now) aren't familiar with death metal at all. I can't say that many "melodic death metal" bands sound black metal either..

Many bands of those so called Melodic Death Metal bands don't deserve to be called Death Metal at all. Compare a Melodic Death Metal band like In Flames (from their Jester Race time) with a Death Metal band like Cannibal Corpse or Nile and you will notice that the lack of melodies isn't the only difference.

^ couldn't agree more. Except for the word deserve.. I wouldn't call it an accomplishment to be labelled as a Death Metal band.

Well, this thread is quite stupid. In case noone ever noticed, vocals are not the only thing in music. In fact they are almost pointless without music to back them up. Also, the stereotypical "black metal" style is radically different from vocalists like Alexi's, in case you didn't know. I won't bother explaining cause I've done it before several times.

Really, though, what we call melodic death seems to be more like the goth metal I listen to, because of the melodies... yeah I'm just saying what everyone else said..

That's why I can't listen to pure death metal, it seems like there's nothing to it.
