Quick question...

PT 7.3+ benefits from having at least 2 GBs, but it is generally CPU speed that determines how many plugins & tracks one can run.

Adding more RAM will help with VIs that load samples to RAM, like BFD and DFHS for example.

Ah, I used to have a P4 3.2! It never performed as well as I expected it to (bought it when they first came out), but it did the damn job.

Ive got a P4 3.4 Dual core and 1GB of RAM and my cpu dies after everymix I do. I thought you cant use ur CPU to its full capacity if its being bottleneck'd by a low amount of RAM, such as mine :)
 
Check your cpu and ram usage and you'll have an idea what to upgrade.
If cpu load is near 100% ram won't help you :)
 
If your mobo supports dual-core cpus, then do it. I just did a mix on my new X2 5200+ (2gb ram) with 20 tracks of vocals and had RComp, REQ, Waves De-esser, and Duende on every single track and my cpu usage was hovering around 50%. Extremely awesome.
 
It actually worked... I can operate the fucking session now... I've got roughly 2 or more plugs on all 30 or so channels... plus the sends...

Jaymz, get some more ram... lol.

I dont know if my motherboard supports a dual processor... I would imagine not as its nearly 2.5 years old.

If anyone knows anything about Spectral computers, mine is a RM5000.

CPU ~ 3.0 GHz Pentium® 4 800 FSB Hyper Threading 1MB L2 Cache

I wouldnt know where/how to see if I can upgrade to a dual processor, so anyone that could help... I'll try to make it worth your while...

Haha yeah totally man, 1GB is shocking, its my bday soon so ill ask for an extra 2GB...fingers crossed. I need to spend my own money on some cheeky monitors :lol:
