I know he may not have too many fans around here, but i know i've seen a few black and viking metal fans here...

Apparently (according to both bravewords and bnr) Quorthon (Thomas Forsberg) who essentially was the band Bathory, playing all instruments on most albums and writing all the music, was found dead of heart failure in his apartment on Monday. He was 39.

Bathory was arguably the first black metal band (unless you give that credit to Venom) and had a huge hand in the formation of the viking metal genre later in their/his career (if not actually being the first in this genre as well).

This man was a huge force in the metal underground ever since the early 80s (really, how many bands can legitimately claim to have founded a single genre of music, much less two?) and as a longtime fan, this was a horrible surprise to me.

I've had nothing but Bathory cd's in my player since hearing this news yesterday. It was a total shock and I am in mourning for such a great artist and musician. The latter-years Viking Metal material from Bathory is some of my favorite music of all time.

:kickass: *raises frosty frothing mug in memory of Quorthon*

Odin, guide your son home and watch over him.

RIP Quorthon.

Yeah, fuck Regan. What the hell was with taking a federal holiday for that shit? He died, he was an old fuck. What the hell did his sorry ass ever do for anybody?

Bathory on the other hand was a huge force. I never was a big fan of quarthon's vox, but he was a huge inspiration. RIP bro!

Well, if ending the Cold War isn't enough he also led this nation without bowing to ANY political pressure, unlike misguided liberals! You must be really young and somewhat ignorant to post something like that. Reagan (that is how you spell his name by the way) was one the top 5 presidents of this great country!

Take care.

We played a few tracks on WREKage in Quorthon's memory. *sigh* He'll be missed.

As for the Federal holiday last Friday (which, BTW, is the custom when ANY ex-President dies), well..... We just considered it a day off in Quorthon's honor. :worship:
