Although I live in Canada I do tech support for a major ISP in the USA to pay for what the studio can't at the moment. We mainly service backwoods rural areas of places like Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Mississippi etc.

I just received a call from the most racist and profane person I've spoken to in my life. It has truly soured my entire day and continues to do so. I've never experienced or heard such horrible and ignorant things coming out of another humans mouth. I find this truly upsetting.

Because of where I live the level of racism, while present, is rather low compared to other places in North America. Maybe I'm simply not used to it (not that anyone EVER should be) but I'm still vibrating with rage.

Yeah pretty common when I was living in the midwest. Took me back a bit, not used to it up here in cold world.

The story I got told (3rd hand unfortunately) was by someone working in an advertising agency overheard his redneck podunk inbred moron boss say that one of the companies that they worked for complained that there were no black people in the calendar that they made for the company. His reply was (to his fellow co-workers not the company) "well grab a chain I have a truck we can get some n#$%ers for some photos they way they should be".

Horrible how stupid people are. I don't even know how I would have responded to somebody that horrible.

Nothing. He couldn't login to his email from the customer portal. Apparently that can do it.

Further into the call I escalated him and conferenced to a supervisor by his request. I then placed my phone on mute and listened to his conversation with the supervisor and it was just as bad. Afterwards the supervisor came over and was like "Holy fuck...that was crazy. Are you alright? Go have a smoke."

It was completely unprovoked and unacceptable.

It wasn't a joke dude, the asshole caller was being serious - I'm the first to admit that there can be some really funny racial humor, but I also recognize that that level of hatred is a despicable thing, and maybe you would to if you didn't go "smoke a bowl" and go bury your head in the sand. And laying off the weed might also help you realize that one shouldn't write four lines without a period.

Whatever you do about it, don't let it destroy your inner peace.

Be defensive, don't just swallow and show that you are not as ignorant.
Out of 10 people at LEAST 3-4 are stupid, doesn't matter if racist, criminal... whatever. You can all file these under "stupid".
There are many factors that lead to stupidity, however most stupid people are born stupid.
If anyone thinks that funny, I don't. I'm scared by that. And I'm not calling a person stupid because he/she can't count to 3 but because he/she harms another person or his/her surrounding in ANY possible way.

However, don't try to understand his behaviour, you won't succeed.
Take this experience with you and go on with your live or, if that is REALLY important for you try to change something about it.

It's good to know you find things like this funny. This one must have went right over my head.

I appreciate the kind comments and support from everyone. It was just shocking to hear someone say/yell/scream those things and be able to tell from their voice how much they meant it.

Anyway, these people who are racist are usually people who have some serious mental issues and usually hate based on race because they need a reason to feel that they are better somehow because they don't fit in with any other social group. Hating another person because of Race is about as stupid as it gets, no one race is better than another, but all walks of life have their strengths and weaknesses. But people who are too ignorant to see it that way are usually hated by most people so they form hate groups so that they can try to fit in, and in reality, they are miserable inside.

Either way, that sucks!

WHAT THE FUCK!!?! Racism is a bad thing, but you are just as much of a dick if you abuse your position and give out someone's personal information. In fact, I'd be willing to say you are WORSE than this racist because maybe he was just dumb and ignorant (which doesn't necessarily make it right), while you fucking know exactly what you are doing...
