Oh yeah and "MOAR ES ES EL"

So I'm mid way through tracking with this band. Bass and drums are completely done and guitars and vocals are to come.

as a begining mix I've added the scratch guitars and scratch vocal via sm57 to the mix to see how this is panning out.

reason for the "MOAR ES ES EL" comment? I used an SSL E-series console to track these drums.

It's my first time doing this style of music so let me know your thoughts even though this is just a chorus.

I'd love to hear from the bigger guys with experience in this kind of stuff too.

can't judge the mix at the moment (listened on laptop speaker)

is that Indonesian band? why Jakarta? Sorry little bit out of topic

needs more overheads and the compression on the master bus pumps a bit too much, but I definitely hear some potential for a solid mix, and this is still decent for just being a rough mix!

Not Indonesian. They're a local Brisbane band. No idea why they are named this but maybe it's something to do with Australia's relationship with the horrific Jakarta bombings.

Thanks man. I dont want to put in too much overheads but I'll try bring em up abit.

I'm trying to work with some compression and Ozone to Master this but I'll probably end up scrapping it all and having to remix and just use Gclip and some limiters. :bah:

The drums aren't bright enough for me. I'd bring up the room mics for sure as well.

The snare definitely needs to be comped differently. It's bringing out some tubbiness that isn't very pleasing to the ears.

The bass tone sounds awesome, and the instrument balance is pretty sweet so far, too.

Thanks for the input Greg. you definatley think its the comp? I might try knock off the 3 db at around 200 on the snare. Ill have a play around though.

Im sure everyone will enjoy my favourite track on this cd as well. It's going to be HUGE and roomy as it is a very laid back kind of song and we pulled down the baffles and introduced a couple more reflective surfaces.

It sounds kind of like Pearl Jam, Binaural era... (best era, in my opinion). I may be wrong but if this is a radio rock kind of thing, maybe the vocals should be more up-front, don't you agree? (and a little more in tune too)

Not trying to sound like an ass but I'll go over it again. guitars and vocals are scratch tracks. So that vocal was done in one take on a day when he didn't even know he was doing vocals. The drummer last minute asked if he could get some guide vocals, so we did it.

(but atleast I have a singer with a good voice to work with when we do the proper vocal recording.)
