Ramesses is comprised of two former members of the laudable Electric Wizard, and We Will Lead You to Glorious Times finds the power trio at a condition in which extolling is warranted. Unfortunately, this album is an EP and a full-length is far from being on the edge of the horizon.

“Witchampton” is a dense listen, and the vocalizations of Richardson reside comfortably in the background. Thankfully, his throaty rasps are situated in the right place, and are effective as need be. Musically speaking, the pace is somewhat methodical, plodding, and conducive to long listening sessions. These are relatively lengthy songs, for an EP, UMers. “Master Your Demons” speeds things up, though, for the time being. As with the rest of We Will Lead You to Glorious Times, the song is immersive and home to top-heavy, sludgy riffs. Likewise, hardly any of the members of Ramesses display virtuoso qualities in this setting, but that is seldom the point. “Master Your Demons” ends after five and a half minutes, and cuts to “Ramesses II.” The latter showcases previously utilized formulas in its five minutes at the forefront. “Black Domina” sounds vaguely similar to Isis, but gets much heavier and lasts for the better part of ten minutes. The remainder of the album is two videos from aforesaid tracks (“Ramesses II” and “Master Your Demons”). So, that may be another incentive to purchase We Will Lead You to Glorious Times.

God forbid anyone should choose Ramesses’s latest over Electric Wizard’s We Live. But, the observation that the former is a young group with only an EP to their name is an encouragement. Maybe the two aforementioned bands shouldn’t be compared or strapped into an involuntary competition, but nature does seem to take its course regardless of the circumstance(s). Good debut; let’s hear more.

Instead of one great band (Electric Wizard), we now have two! Can't go wrong with that...

"Witchampton" was my favorite, but does anybody notice how close "Master Your Demons" is to "The Elder Race" by Dream Death? Still an awesome example of sludgy death! :kickass:
