Its true actually. When Playstation 2 was the shit, and people were paying about 800 dollars for one, A guy bought one off of ebay and recieved a picture of a playstation 2 printed on some photo paper

I understand your concern but you are not buying FROM ebay, you are buying from the seller. As long as the seller has positive feedback, you will not get screwed. I have positive feedback and only buy from those who do and I have NEVER got stiffed on any deals and I have been the buyer atleast 50 times now. Don't let crazy stories control you. It's like someone hearing that all metal is evil and about Satan. Unless you have tried it for yourself, you'll never know the truth.
