Spoke with a guy that is working in one of Swedens biggest studios. They got it all, u67, u47 whatever. He said at one session 2tubes went crap when they fired up 2 u47 :S . And i belive that is a fair price nowdays on those tubes. He said that the paid 2k each :d
Never understood this NOS tubes non sense.
And how an old, rarest, used, vintage tube made in a WWII bombed factory now defunct can cost thousands of dollars and be sought after by 'connoisseurs'.
Fuck, im currently sitting on a bunch of NOS Telefunken 12at7's from the 60's.. the guy i got them from had like 15 of those tubes, and he asked me if i "wanted them"(For free that is..).
Needless to say, im going to have to call this guy again..
They're not THAT much better, but everyone i've talked to that have tried NOS tubes said that they definitely sounds better.. even though most of these very same people don't think its worth THAT much more.
For example, a 12at7 goes for about 10$ at the moment.. my NOS-tubes are worth roughly 100-150$ a piece.
If I understood correctly, those VF14 tubes aren't your average 12ax7 variants, thus can not be substituted. Starting production again would be too costly.
But then again, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong!

They are definitely not the same, what i meant is this:
I personally bought a bunch of NOS 12at7, used in some tube microphones, preamps and compressors(Not to be confused with its brother: 12ax7.).
The guy i bought these said tubes from also had what i at least think where these VF14 tubes and asked if i wanted them because he didn't know what to use them for.
The part about costs where just an example over how much more expensive NOS tubes are.. while they are better sounding then modern tubes, they're definitely NOT 10 times as good.
