Rate My Full Collection and Post Yours

My cd list consist of mainly metal, but I got Jazz CDs, a flamenco and Santana's older stuff. Also I listen to my sister's music which consists of a huge range of music from jazz, to blues, to alternative rock(Radiohead rule!), to hard rock.

Well maybe I went a little far in judging people for having all metal collections- but I dont see how one can be so enthralled with one form of music- if they only listen to one genre( despite the many different styles of the metal genre) Well this is entirely my opinion- and I now remember that many classical music performers ony listen to classical- which I find strange as well- so I suppose I was just trying to stir things up.

First of all you all deserve brownie buttons for wasting that much time and money, to create such extensive collections.

Ive looked at most of them-and I really didnt see any other music but metal represented- surely you guys listen to something else but metal? we know Sonicarnal Artist likes sarah brightman- but what non metal bands do the rest of you like. I know this is a metal site- but it seems a bit absurd to build a collection of all metal cds- and shut yourself off to the experiences of the rest of the musical world.

I hear this argument a lot, but do you really know how many types of metal are actually out there? Some bands in my collection include aspects of other genres like rap (Candiria), rock n' roll (Clutch), jazz (Fleurety) etc, etc.

Metal is limitless.

I dont got as much as you all but... 55 originals so far I believe. I must get more death/thrash CDs.

And that's why we all use something like cd-tracker.com

Also, I find that Metal is the only genre that I like (aside from Classical Music), but that doesn't mean I don't give the other genres a try. I just don't like them. I download songs to see if I would like them, but I always wind up deleting them instead of rushing out and buying their cds like I do with Metal bands. As for classical, I just haven't gotten around to buying any yet.

The question for me is whether or not one is typing out and acquiring such massive metal collections for oneself, or for others? Surely the starter of this thread wanted to show off his collection to others- yet it does seem he collects to fulfill his own musical tastes; is this the common theme for all the other posters? It just seems horribly self indulgent in all the wrong ways ( as in trying to show off to others). Furthermore- just what makes one spend so much money on such a collection- just what is it- desire?

I know I am going to piss people off with this post- but I am doing my best - to not judge others- its just that such threads strike me with obvious questions that I cannot ignore.

Who gives a fuck if the collections don't have German death metal? If you want them to have it so bad, fucking send them some German death metal. :)

And of course after people have built long and extensive collections, they want to show it off to other people, but I hope with most people (like me), they build the collections primarily for their own listening enjoyment.

Ask yourself, "Why would someone buy CD's simply to impress someone else?" While I can see some newbies possibly doing this, I think it's extremely ignorant of you to assume that because someone has a big collection of music, that he/she is just trying to impress others. Did it ever occur to you that the owner may actually like and listen to all of his/her CD's?

I'd find it a complete waste of money to buy my music based on someone else's opinion of what is the latest craze. And how exactly did you come to the conclusion that the thread starter bases his purchases based on what he likes, yet you question everyone else?

It just seems horribly self indulgent in all the wrong ways ( as in trying to show off to others).

Dude, the title of the thread is "Rate My Full Collection and Post Yours"

Furthermore- just what makes one spend so much money on such a collection- just what is it- desire?

Why don't you ask the stamp collector, the Barbie doll collector, the beer can collector, the G.I. Joe action figure collector, etc? People have hobbies. People like to collect things. Is there something wrong with collecting music that you like? Surely not.
