I don't get this whole DON'T USE COMPRESSION OMG craze among newbie engineers.
Mixers such as CLA use really low ratios and a lot of gain reduction (so there's not really much actual compression going on) to smooth out distorted guitar sounds and generally give tracks a more interesting quality sonically.

And anyway, who the fuck told you it was okay to put a mix up with guitars with no cab sim? Do you have any idea how much that hurts to listen to? I'm assuming you aren't deaf as fuck (which is surprising considering how much those guitars hurt to listen to) so what's up man? Why no cab sim?

edit: fuck turning the speakers up with those guitars. harsh as fuck high mids on everything as well. don't flatter yourself.

get voxengo boogex now, use fredman impulses or recabinet (buy it, its 15 bucks at the minute) and stop being so silly about compression. learn how to use it, and use it liberally as fuck.

the guitars were actually recorded on a 1 watt amplified 8 inch infinite bafold speaker so i wouldn't get any bass from the guitar with a condenser mic rather close to it that as no proximity effect. I tough the crisp was fine, well it does well in my monitors. I'm not into those boomy guitars and i like when the bass actually completes the guitars. hmm kk i guess i should post a mix with different guitar tracks. I'll give it a go and post something else today. I was not trying to flatter myself by the way. I just tought that when i brought this mix really loud it felt great. It is compressed, it's just done manually with gain riding. Listen to the cymbals. I don't say that i never use compression. I do, simply not in this mix wich i tought give the stereo image a good room to breathe.

I assume its because they've heard a bit about the "loudness war" and thought that they didn't want their records to be "over compressed", so they figure thats one less thing to learn about.

Don't do that again.

Neither am I.
I'm not into having my ears raped by guitars with no cab simulation either.
There is nothing you can say to defend a tone this bad.

Please do, but don't get too creative with it just yet. 8505 and impulses will do quite nicely for now. If I see that you can at least do that right I may not yell at you anymore.

I was not trying to flatter myself by the way.
Good, because if you'd been trying to I could have laughed at you for falling flat on your face in doing so.

I just tought that when i brought this mix really loud it felt great.
incorrect.

Please fuck off and do not come back until you understand what compression is and how it is used. It isn't compressed if you rode the faders.

They sound like someone hitting empty cans of spaghetti hoops.
Listen to Paramore - Brand New Eyes and tell me that despite the compression, the stereo image doesn't "breathe."
Don't know what the fuck you mean by breathe, though. Sort your fucking terminology out.

Sorry but its such a terrible tone it made me jump! Try again with sims and impulses - there's loads of good threads here where people have shown their processing to get some amazing tones.

Damn...You guys are uber-harsh...Im trying to find a reason why you shouldnt have been so bad on the guy...but I just cant.

Basically all I have is read every sticky posted on this forum, and get rid of that guitar sound!

I tried giving the monitors the beans as you suggested.....but it was just too harsh for my ears to handle, you must have asbestos ears in order to listen to that cranked.

Haha, you really don't know me very well do you?
I don't do chilled out.
And if compressing distorted guitars is good enough for fucking Chris Lord-Alge, it's good enough for me, I don't see why either of us have any right to question his knowledge and ability when it comes to this shit. Compressing distorted guitars with a low ratio and lots of gain reduction isn't going to actually compress anything all that much, it's just going to impart its character on it. If you use a nice smooth sounding compressor, it'll just smooth the fucking gits out without fucking them up with compression. Why is this a difficult concept to understand? Do you not understand the way a compressor fundamentally operates just the same as you didn't know what a low-pass is or are you just a crazy person who has enough of an ego to think the way CLA does things isn't good enough for mass consumption?

Anyway. You could have perhaps read the topic? You wouldn't be getting so fucking confused as to why the link isn't working. The guy fucking removed it man, jesus, learn to read. Even if I was too stoned and too drunk to walk or form a coherent fucking sentence I could have picked that up.
