Been reading about it today, so I decided to give it a shot.
The only gear I used for this is the Phonic Helix 18.
This is how I did it

Mono Instrument Input (Channel 11) >
Into, then back out of Reaper (Screenshot of aux sends, etc here - http://i32.tinypic.com/nobslu.jpg ) >
through the MAIN FIREWIRE OUT to my interface, from here I assigned FW Out to Aux 1, which is a mono send, to the amp. Shortly after I sharted at how fucking wierd it is when the amp is playing but there ain't no guitarist. Soooo wierd.
