Reason!!

Yeah that program rocks with host software. There are alot of newbs who use it as a standalone app and I think it really shines when you run it through rewire.

I'm not a noob, in fact I'm an old-b. I use Reason for the tv music that I do and standalone 90% of the time. The trick with making Reason sound good is all about your engineering/mixing skills.

Maybe you guys could enlighten me, cuz I've kinda been at a loss: what makes Reason so special, except that it's all encompassing? Can't you just get a VSTi for each aspect of Reason that will work as well if not better? (in other words, it always struck me as a "good at all, excellent at none" thing)

the advantage of reason is it's closed architecture. All of the plugs, synths, and modules are specifically made for the platform and the program is rock solid on almost everyones computer. It has the be the most stable app I have ever used. You can get alot done right in that one program if you really learn it.

Except for having to record audio in another app, and playing back the files in the sampler. But that's why we rewire!

For mixing, I prefer to bounce the tracks individually (24 bit NO dither) and then dump them into whatever platform I'm using.

I like the fact that you can rout reason as a midi device (and all the devices within reason) in cubase. Reasons midi is horrible simple quantizing crap gui etc...

I basically think of it as an awsome bundle of software instroments and almost never do any sequencing within the program.

I wasn't complaining about the rack look. I was complaining about the midi sequencer and how crap I think it is.

Here is a challenge (that I never found an answer to)

Take a midi note recorded in reason. Okay now put another one over that AKA double trigger or double note or stacked note or what the fuck ever it called. Okay now here is a question:

How do you erase the doubles (that will make your beats/hits sound harder)?

You can't without erasing both notes and drawing them back in. This is one of the reasons Reason's sequencer sucks.

Also: Quantizing: It's basic, it's crap. Reason as a midi sequencer is horrible. So basically I prefer to think of it as an awsome set of software instruments rather than a recording app.

i love reason. i love it so much.
once you get your head round it, its really easy,my girlfriend loves it too. i dont think the midi editing is terrible, but i tend to use it thru rewire into Pro tools
