I'm currenty using an Ibeenhad GSR200 4-String. I am now in drop B and I'm gonna have to put a set of 135's on it and file the nut if I wanna continue to use it. I've decided I might as well just take the money I'd invest into modifying it and put it towards a new 5 string. I have demoed the fender jazz and it sounded muddy and weak compared my ibanez. I'm not much of a bass tone guru, and I really don't know what kind of bass sound sits best in a metal mix. I can get a used MIM Fender Jazz for around $300-350. Is this the best option or should I look elsewhere?

If you are looking to keep it around $300, the Brice HXB 5-string is a great bass. My bassist buddy loves mine.

Think looks pretty nice for the price. Active pups for under $300. Di's?

Yep pickups are active with a passive switch. They obviously aren't the greatest, but they compliment the wood choice nicely. I'm still toying with throwing some EMGs in it, but it really does sound fine as is.

The most amazing thing was the fret job. Usually with an axe at that price, you get a crappy fret job and setup. This one was perfect.

I've heard of the curbow before but never really looked into them. Just listened to some clips on youtube and :OMG:
