Hey guys.. figured this would be the place to turn for this sort of question...

Need some `phones for use with a laptop and mp3 player.... gonna be traveling a bit so portability is good... plus it wouldnt hurt if they were pretty sleek looking, too, lol. Im leaning towards cans, actually... Im not huge on having things in my ears, etc.

Also, comfortable ones would be good... Ive heard the AKG K 518's sound badass, but hurt your head...

Im trying to stay under $100... preferably around $75.

Thanks in advance.

Sennheiser PX100's sound great but are open back - not the best for use in subways/trains/planes/etc.

Sennheiser CX300's are fucking killer... about $45 bucks, in-ear type. Absolutely love mine!

I'll echo the Sennheiser CX300's. I wasn't huge on having anything prodding in my ear either (for all of you with a dirty mind: piss off ;), but they feel extremely comfortable and the level of detail is just lush. Hearing nuances I had not heard before. Had PX100's before and some Sony M-something.. these blow them out of the water. Definately recommend them unless you want to use them for running or something, still use my caps for that.

In Ear/Earbuds: Sennheiser CX300's

Lastly... even those cheap ass Sony MDR-E828/818LP Fontopia earbuds arent so bad considering the quality of earbud design in general. For <$10 you can get a pair of decent earbuds (much better than apple or iluv etc. buds) that you dont have to be too concerned about if they go through alot of wear and tear. You just replace them 3 months down the line with another pair if they break, and are usually the best match for somthing like an IPOD (with its crappy converters) and/or flash players that have a lower volume output.

I'd recommend staying away from the skullcandy headphones. they sound like shit. they are more for looks than anything. here at work, we got a shipment of them (we were going to partner with them because DJ's like them, hah) and tons of us tested them out. we concluded they are, in fact, overprices hyped crap. even put em next to a 20 dollar pair of sennheisers and the difference is obvious.

regarding "DJ" headphones... whats the difference? more bass drive? Just the swiveling of the cans?

Do cans give better bass response than in-ears?/buds?

Oh most definitely dude, it's a matter of driver size, but I sure as fuck wouldn't wanna look like one of those tools walking around with a pair of circumaurals! :Smug: My ATH-M50s stay strictly at my desk or on me when I'm on like a long bus ride somewhere.

I really like the sennheiser hd-280....or sennheiser eh350 if you want some more low end, but the eh350 is open back.

Definately, they're cheap plasticky POS. :puke:
